"This is the Chinese navy... You go!" China warns US spy plane flying over South China Sea

You cannot 'lose' something you never had. Leaving the convention means most likely China will never be able to use the convention's legal benefits for future situations in the seas. It means for those future situations, China will have only force of physical methods, not from moral persuasions, to deal with others. It will be simpler for all.

Given how China is behaving recently, China might as well leave the table of civilized countries altogether, after all, in Nov 2011, the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party effectively rejected the concept of a 'great power responsibility' as fundamentally flawed because it holds a country, regardless of size, to what China considered to be false 'universal values' that were conjured up by major global powers intent on maintaining their hegemonic status.

The legal possession status of those islands are in dispute. They may have their own EEZ, territorial surface and airspace restrictions, and those privileges are standalone from possession, but until that issue is resolved China cannot claim them and use them to control the South China Sea. Any such attempt at control will be punished.
Please define what is so-called dispute?

If somedays vietnam claimed that California and Washiton belongs to Vietnam, Then washiton becomes disputed?
This is the case in south China sea. 1953 the PM of vietnam admited these islands belong to China, then in 1970s Vietnam claimed these islands' sourvenity. Isn't it rediculous?
US is not the word corps. You should NEVER interfere other countries' dispute. Get out from Asia, you belong to North American. You need to respect others, otherwise your *** will be kicked

.
exactly
US always want to spy off other countries' coastline, but it will never allow other countries to spy off its coastline
Wrong...During the Cold War, the Soviet Union often flew towards and eventually loiter outside US airspace in both recon and provocative missions. As long as anyone obey international standards, there is and was nothing the US could do. You did not bring up any new arguments/criticisms here.

.
china dont have any sovereignty over SCS.
Right, Cn has Nothing there
You seem to have a prob on reading comprehension, but

it has nothing to do with artificial islands, or "claims"or "flights" or whatsoever!

It is inside China's sovereign, for god's sake.

China can build a lunar space centre , or 12 ghost cities plus 2 dozens casino & hotel chains there if it wants. or China can buld nothing there , but it is still China's sovereign, which is none of anyone's business.
So, who recognize thats CN's sovereign ??

Believe it or not -- Yes. It may be a silly dispute and eventually, people will dismiss it. But if there is a plaintiff then there is a dispute.

Kokang in Myanmar-Mongol and some lands in Russia were CN's lands, but CN leaders had to hand over them to Myanmar-Russia and never dare to take back. So, when CN is weak again, you guys will have to cede more lands to others nation again :pop:

Yes, but we all know that it's north VN annex south, right?
It is Vietnam, who is not faithful and can't keep their promise!
We don't think it will help if China goes to court to debate with somebody who always break their promise! To this unfaithful evil guy, what people should do is to teach him a lesson.

You're right, we should leave the "civilized" world, I mean if this was America, it would have done to the Philippines, what it had done to Mexico, or the Philippines, or Cuba. But I don't like to play the blame game, so I'll leave it at this.

We can definitely use the convention, the convention at this point is international norms. If we fire and sank something within our 12 miles territorial waters, even if we are not in the convention, we will still be justified.

The US isn't in the convention, yet it constantly uses "freedom of navigation" from the convention which the US is not a party for its military purposes.

You act as if not being in the convention would disqualify us from anything, when the US has proven, not being in the convention is not as important as having a powerful navy.

As to given how China is "behaving," who died and made you king, US may be the undisputed super power, we are not a vessel state to it. We are "behaving" just fine, given your European allies are in our bank, your Asian allies in more advanced free trade agreement than your TTP, and having better relations with Africa than you ever did.

So other than your own American view, the rest of the world likes us just fine. Which is fine, because we are not your biggest fan either.

The idea and need of 'freedom of navigation' predate the UNCLOS convention, buddy. Maybe not in formalized text, but certainly was in tacit agreement post WW II, the parties involved included China. If what China built on those reefs cannot be recognized as islands, that 12-mile exclusionary zone do not exist on any island, and any shooting at anyone by China will be considered an act of war -- BY CHINA.

So yes, you may draw when ready.
