Amazing achievements by the world's most secular and scientific government in a single year which would get any now-rigid US government elected multiple times without half of the people always hating them.

This is what we may call "result-oriented governance." No posturing, no lying through teeth, no rich-business endorsement, no under the table deals, no nothing of the sort that we came to used to see in the systemically corrupt US governance model.

This is simply delivering real results without shouting into people's ears for the benefit of the extreme majority.

A look back at the govt's 31 goals and achievements in 2017

China fulfilled its promises it made last year to improve the quality of people's daily lives, said the 2018 Government Work Report. Here are some of the highlights.

In the year just passed, all main targets and tasks for economic and social development were accomplished and performance has exceeded expectations. GDP grew 6.9 percent and personal income rose 7.3 percent, both beating the previous year's growth rates.

Around 13.51 million new urban jobs were created, and the jobless rate was the lowest in recent years. Industrial growth began to rebound, and corporate profits increased 21 percent. Government revenue grew 7.4 percent, reversing the slowdown in growth.

The total import and export value rose 14.2 percent. Inward foreign investment reached $136.3 billion, hitting a new all-time high.

The state of play in the economy was good, with growth and quality, structural improvement, and performance each reinforcing the other.

Inward investment reached an all-time-high?

But what about the "hard landing"? I guess some of our friendly neighbors here are going to tell us that all the buildings and infrastructure we have built over the last year don't actually exist, and are made of thin air. :enjoy:

Our "Facebook and Twitter oriented" PDF friends will still be mumbling about "freedom and democracy" , pretending they are on par with western countries.

Chinese system is unique and China is exceptional.

Results proves everything, day by day, year by year, I see improvements in our people's lives. I see the environment getting better, I see the government dare make the decision to shut down old inefficient plants and prioritize the environment. I see more and more advanced technology getting developed and lastly, I see Indians getting more and more panicky by the day. Interesting times ahead!

Ghost cities. If we really listened to the Western lecturing, we would have to wait until people filled up the city outskirts with many beautiful shanty-towns rising up and roads becoming too narrow (or missing) to meet the demand by now wage-earning former villagers and China would be yet another Democracy-wonder SP12.

The West continuously lectured China to become just another SP12. But, I think, China thought that one SP12 would be enough for the world at the moment and it will just continue to be a developing country.

Our "Facebook and Twitter oriented" PDF friends will still be mumbling about "freedom and democracy" , pretending they are on par with western countries.

Chinese system is unique and China is exceptional.

Obviously, Twitter and Facebook may make wonderful violence-ridden US or inefficient SP12 (with all the free time on the streets in workdays to play with US social media and enjoy all the freedoms on their amazing Freedom 251 smart phones), but they cannot make efficient and result-oriented governments.

I see Indians getting more and more panicky by the day.

SP12ers are small nuts. The real nuts are those in the West going nuts at the sight of China not becoming another West-worshiping, mind-colonized zombie-land.

A responsible government plans for next century, a "democratic" government plans for next election.

Democracy Aristotle imagined was 100% different from the one we now see in the US. The US falls in the category of Timocracy, under Aristotle's classification.

and super rich people are not untouchable :D

That's, I think, the social aspect of China's governance model. The elite should internalize the idea that they are not out of reach of public accountability and oversight.

The only option they have is to run away and live a life of a fugitive, always looking behind the shoulder.

Or just to become good citizens. :D

Food security must be ensured, president says

President Xi Jinping highlighted the importance of revitalizing the country's rural areas during the top legislature's ongoing annual session in Beijing on Thursday.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended a panel discussion with deputies to the National People's Congress from Shandong province at the Great Hall of the People.

The strategy of revitalizing rural areas is a significant decision made at the CPC's 19th National Congress and a great historical task to secure the decisive victory of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, Xi said.

The quality of a moderately welloff society and socialist modernization is decided by whether rural areas are strong, beautiful and rich, Xi said, adding that the importance of rural revitalization strategy must be highlighted.

On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Xi extended International Women's Day congratulations and wishes to the female NPC deputies and CPPCC members as well as women from all walks of life in the country.

During the discussion, eight deputies to the NPC gave their suggestions on issues including transferring the nation's economic driving force, scientific innovation, employment and education.

Xi encouraged the people of Shandong to make continuous efforts and play an active role in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

The rural revitalization strategy needs to be carried forward in a scientific manner, Xi said, adding that efforts should be made to build industrial systems in rural areas, thereby increasing farmers' incomes and eliminating poverty.

Xi stressed that national food security must be guaranteed, and the country's agricultural competitiveness should be improved.

More measures should be taken to attract more talent and boost their confidence to build up rural areas and engage in the rural revitalization strategy, Xi said.

Xi urged pushing forward the revitalization of culture in rural areas under the guidance of socialist core values, publicizing excellent traditional ethical norms and cultivating good family virtues.

The president highlighted the importance of protecting rural ecology, saying the three-year action plan on improving the rural environment should be implemented firmly and the "toilet revolution" should be carried forward in rural areas.

The building of Party organizations must be enhanced in rural areas, and the modern rural governance system should be improved under the leadership of the Party committee so that rural society will be vigorous and stable, Xi said.

The farmers' will must be respected in the process of rural revitalization, and their fundamental interests must be protected, he said.

Xi also stressed the importance of speeding up the building of world-class seaports, improving the modern oceanic industrial system and building a sustainable oceanic ecology.
