Expect the Afghan Air Force to carry out a major operation (probably this weekend after the Ghani meeting in DC) with their MD-530s and PC-12s like OP Faryab Eagle or what happened in Shah Wali Kot Jungle in Oruzgan, to open up the roads. Probably will work for a couple weeks, but once the helos move to the next valley, they will lose control all over again. Not really and it was expected. ANA army doesn't exist in real. Just few bunch of jobless Afghans, who used to wear fancy solider uniforms for monthly wages. These people are not fool to give up their lives for useless mayor of Kabul.

Also the Corps are ethnic based. Basically the old militias of the 90s civil war. But with all the foreign money around, the price to “rent-a-militia” is higher this time around.

20 years on the battlefield and u think they are not skilled? Its easy to train with toys but a different ball game when death is lurking around. There is no better teacher than practical experience and they have alot of that.

Especially consider this is probably the 5th or 6th rebuilding of the military leaders after all the night raids. 20 years under that kind of pressure, with all their losses up to this point and what appears to be things going there way, you know they must be motivated.

Their aircraft maybe able to operate in limited numbers. Also, the contractors probably haven’t left fully. Perhaps in a couple months the situation will be different, but between now and September, with the situation so fluid, you never know what could be thrown into the mix.

BTW, do you think Russian, Chinese, or Even Iranian commandos may try to steal some of the Helicopters and other equipment? It’s not inconceivable they may shoot down platforms in hopes of getting at the technology. They probably try to steal the FLIRs. The PC-12 probably use the FLIR Star Safire 380-HLDc

Once the USA leaves, I won’t be surprised if the Taliban start using MANPADs etc. to take out the Afgan AF....

Maybe. Wouldn’t surprise me consider the amount of money they have been making from the drug trade. Considering all the weapons in other theaters and smuggling networks, you never know. No one expect that Iranian backed militia using a Manpad a few month ago.

Taliban in the last 24 hours have taken many districts in all corners of Afghanistan, surprising many analysts. The Afghan forces in many districts just simply melted away or surrendered. The Taliban in the process got their hands on many weapons and hardware.

Apparently ANA is trying to follow path of their teachers aka the Indian military who surrendered hundreds of kilometers of land in Ladakh without a fight

The ANA was mainly a "paper" force, according to studies by our Armed Forces upto a third of ANA and other soldiers just exist on paper and the general of that outfit would just keep the wages and benefits for himself.

Another third was useless and illiterate and not much beyond a warm body.

The final third could fight, was brave, but was exhausted, over stretched with up 10 months in theatre without a break, with not much food and ammo.

The same problem as above with the Spec Forces, totally stretched and exhausted, in conclusion a great big cluster fck, and collapse in all theatres.

You can only fight for so long before your exhaustion kicks in.

And, they always scathingly criticize the Pak Army for the East Pak debacle!! Even General Manekshaw praised the Pak Army, cut off from the mainland by 1200 miles of the enemy territory while surviving amongst 70 million angry and hungry local populace, for withstanding 9 long months of relentless terrorism from 4 sides, and then culminating in a 15:1 odd coupled with the lack of any air or naval power, long range artillery, armored, AD etc. As for the logistics the least said the better. Some units had only flour to eat....

Biden made things worse by not honoring the Trump deal's May1 deadline but withdrawing anyway.

Bonn government frame work was made by foreigners and Afghan diaspora with little understanding of the situation on the ground. In time it has proven to be very corrupt and dysfunctional. The government in Afghanistan needs to be redone and Taliban have proven they should have a seat.

IMO the Ghani regime should be dissolved and an interim caretaker administration should be set up until a deal with the Taliban is completed.
