Third Palestinian Uprising: Updates and Discussions

How fascist, internationally-proscribed terror group Hamas fleece Gaza

Aside from siphoning off international aid for its missile and tunnel programs, Hamas has been cynically manipulating its residents in Gaza by imposing unreasonable taxes to prop up its terror activities, even while deceiving the world into blaming Israel for the bleak situation.

Hamas continues to complain of the "Israeli blockade" in the international press and accuse it for Gaza's economic crisis, but meanwhile the terrorist organization is fleecing its residents in various forms of taxes and funneling tens of millions of dollars into its "military arm" every month. Meanwhile the international community continues to ignore the duplicity of Hamas and condemns Israel's legal naval blockade.

Several of Hamas' methods of ripping off Gaza residents were exposed by Walla on Friday, which reported that nearly 100,000 residents in the coastal enclave remain homeless since Operation Protective Edge in summer 2014, Hamas' third war against Israel.

Qatar has been donating enormous funds to rebuild Gaza, and slowly new homes are being built for the 17,000 families whose homes were completely destroyed.

Recently Hamas held a raffle for 1,040 housing units built by Qatar in Gaza, promising Gazan homeless who signed up that they would receive the homes for free.

However, Walla reports that those who won in the housing lottery found that Hamas demanded that they pay $40,000 for each "free" house. The terror group claimed the expenses were required to hook up the houses to the various infrastructure systems such as water and electricity.

In this way, Hamas required those who lost their homes in a war started by the terror group to pay for homes that were paid for by Qatar, and did not cost Hamas at all. Hamas is to see a benefit of nearly $40 million in the coming years thanks to the taxes on the homes.

Showing the widespread corruption, sources in Gaza revealed that around 150 of those who won in the lottery actually did receive their homes for free - because they had ties to Hamas.

Tax schemes

The housing lottery is far from the only example of Hamas' exploitation of Gaza residents.

Another case arises from the fact that Israel prevents ships from Gaza from straying too far into the Mediterranean Sea so as to block weapons smuggling. The boats of fishermen who breach the line are seized, and if the fishermen are found not to be involved in smuggling, they are returned.

But when the boats are returned, Hamas demands that the fishermen pay a tax for the return of their own property, seized due to Hamas' weapons smuggling efforts.

Another tax is seen when residents require the services of Hamas' police force due to a disagreement or a criminal incident - in such cases they must pay a tax for calling a policeman.

Hamas also tries to manipulate residents who receive exit permits from Israel so as to establish terror infrastructures in Judea and Samaria.

For a certain price, Gazans can get a permit from a senior doctor saying they need urgent medical treatment in Judea and Samaria, or in sovereign Israeli territory. Often Hamas uses those who obtain the permits in order to transfer funds or messages to its terrorists in Judea and Samaria.

Smuggling has likewise been a huge issue as nearly every week the terrorists try to sneak materials for producing rockets or digging attack tunnels through the Kerem Shalom crossing. Every day between 650 and 700 trucks loaded with goods pass into Gaza from Israel through the crossing.

Huge quantities of materials for the nefarious terrorist programs are hid among the goods, including one case in which electrodes were found inside margarine.

Terror wages courtesy of Iran

Even as Hamas capitalizes on the plight of its residents and likewise delays the payment of salaries for its workers, the 40,000 terrorists in the group's Al-Qassam Brigades "military wing" continue to be paid.

Their wages are funded by Iran, the leading state sponsor of terrorism.

While Tehran has somewhat limited its financial aid to Hamas, it makes special efforts to maintain its funds for the Al-Qassam Brigades to continue the terror war against Israel.

Aside from Iran, the taxes exploited by Gazans also help to fuel the wages of the Hamas terrorists.

According to Israeli estimates, every year Hamas invests nearly 100 million shekels (around $25.7 million) into smuggling in materials to produce weapons and dig attack tunnels.

If Gaza is under siege, why is Hamas bragging about its exports of food?

The Gaza ministry of agriculture has announced that during 2015 it exported over 13,000 tons of produce, and an additional 3700 tons of exports this year.

During 2015 the sector exported 105 tons of vegetables to Europe, 3700 tons to Arab countries, 3460 tons to Israel and 5750 tons to West Bank Arabs.

This was all announced at an internal Gaza website.

But yesterday the minister of agriculture repeated these statistics to reporters, which would seem unusual. Why have newspapers publish the exact opposite of the impression that they try to give to the world of a suffering, besieged population?

The answer is that this press conference was meant to bash Israel anyway.

You see, the rates of cancer in Gaza have increased in recent years. Palestinians of course blame Israel (pretending that Israel used depleted uranium weapons), an easily provable falsehood, but the media also mentions inconvenient facts like the rate of smoking and the amount of pesticides used in Gaza.

Hamas' Ministry of Agriculture does not want to be blamed for any of the cancer increases in Gaza, so they staged this press event to say that the cancer in Gaza is strictly due to Israeli "experimental weapons". Their proof is that their produce goes through strict Israeli food safety checks before being allowed to be exported!

Mohammed Jadallah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, said "We took samples of the soil with radioactive material and gave them to international organizations asking them to send us the test results, but they refused to help us and this shows the extent of their collusion with the occupation."

What more proof do you need?

In order to avoid being shamed, the ministry was forced to contradict the meme of the siege.

Officials also bragged that chicken farming in Gaza is so successful that they refuse to import any chicken from Israel. Although if the Gaza chickens are eating grain that is contaminated with radiation from Israeli weapons that they claim permeates Gaza, then this means that the ministry is knowingly exposing its residents to cancer.

Too bad none of the reporters, eagerly drinking the Hamas Kool-Aid, thought to ask about that.

Fatah, the largest faction within the PLO, and the party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, celebrated the Tuesday murder of an American tourist in Jaffa on its Facebook page, the media watchdog group Palestinian Media Watch has reported.

The group posted a hand drawn sketch of a hand gripping a knife over a map of Israel and the Palestinian territories. The text on the arm reads "the heroic martyr," (Shahid in Arabic), and written on the map is the name Bashar Masalha, the murderer of the American Taylor Force.

Mashala, a 21-year-old man from Kalkilya, went on a stabbing spree in Tel Aviv-Jaffa on Tuesday night, killing Vanderbilt graduate student Taylor Force, 29, who was visiting Israel, and wounding 12 others.

An anchor on the official Palestinian TV station referred to the American casualty and the other victims as "settlers" and the network also referred to the terrorist as a shahid or, an Islamic martyr, PMW also reported.

Force was a US veteran who had served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The attack occurred just a short distance away from where visiting Vice President Joe Biden was meeting former president Shimon Peres.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Biden for his strong support and denounced the PA for failing to condemn terror attacks against Israelis.

“Unfortunately President Abbas has not only refused to condemn these terrorism attacks. His Fatah party actually portrays the murderer of this American citizen as a Palestinian martyr and a hero. This is wrong. This failure to condemn terrorism should be condemned itself by everyone in the international community,” Netanyahu said.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on Wednesday that he stands beside Israel in wiping out terrorism, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Abbott was responding to the Palestinian stabbing spree in Jaffa-Tel Aviv on Tuesday evening, in which an American graduate student and US Army vet from Texas was killed.

“It came as a stunning shock to me to learn earlier today that in the great nation that I just visited, a Texan lost his life because of a terrorist attack,” said Abbott, who was recently in Israel. “I strongly condemn that terrorism and reiterate the way that Texas will stand side by side with our friend and ally Israel on doing all that we can to stomp out terroristic activities like this in Israel.”

Taylor Force, the 28-year-old Lubbock, Texas native who lost his life in the terrorist attack, was pursing a graduate degree at Vanderbilt University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, and was visiting Israel on a school trip to learn about startup companies.

Stuart Force, Taylor Force’s father, told The Associated Press that his son had been enjoying his time at Vanderbilt and was very excited about the trip to Israel. Hesaid his son had only been in Israel a few days when the attack occurred.

“He just wanted to further his education and explore more of the civilian side of life,”Stuart said, adding that his son loved horses and ranch life after growing up in Texas.

After hearing the news of Taylor’s death, Marty Northern, Taylor’s former Scoutmaster in Lubbock, said, “Still almost kind of surreal to me that it’s him. I just can’t put any sense to why somebody would have randomly attacked someone like him. He’s a good kid, he’s a good guy, he’s a good man. they don’t know anything about him.”

Palestinian teacher wins global teaching award

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian teacher from the occupied West Bank on Sunday won the Varkey Foundation's 2016 Global Teacher's Prize "for her work educating children in Palestine."

Hanan al-Hroub, from Duheisha refugee camp in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem, was announced the winner of the competition during the award ceremony in Dubai.

About 8,000 teachers from all over the world had competed for the award.

“Every day we see the suffering in the eyes of our students and teachers caused by Israeli occupation’s military checkpoints," al-Hroub said during her acceptance speech.

"Teachers work hard to free the childrens' minds from violence and turn it into dialogues of beauty," she continued.

According to the foundation, al-Hroub went into primary education "after her children were left deeply traumatized by a shooting incident they witnessed on their way home from school."

She was chosen as a finalist in the competition for her teaching method, which focuses on non-violence by "teaching through playing" and interweaves counseling for students struggling with behavior problems due to the violence Palestinian children are subjected to through Israel's occupation.

“We want our children to live in freedom and peace, as their peers all over the world,” al-Hroub said.

Al-Hroub also suggested that 2016 "be dedicated to achieving hope for Palestinian teachers who plant hope in the minds of our children.”

Palestinian companies protest Israeli decision to ban their products

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli troops used tear gas to suppress a march held by five Palestinian food production companies on Sunday near the Israeli Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank.

The companies protested by parking their trucks near the prison, after Israeli authorities banned their products from entering Jerusalem and Israel.

An Israeli army spokesman did not immediately respond for request for information about the protest.

Israel informed the companies on Wednesday that their products were banned from entering Jerusalem through the Beitunia commercial crossing.

The director of marketing for the Hamoda company, Fadi Abu Hilweh, told Ma’an on Saturday evening that Israeli troops at the crossing have been turning back trucks of the five companies since Wednesday.

The Temple Mount camera fiasco will hurt the Palestinians

Last month, the Jordan Times wrote:

The Israeli occupation authorities and right wing cannot prevent Jordan from installing surveillance cameras in Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif compound, Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said on Monday.

The goal of installing the cameras is to preserve the identity of Al Aqsa and record any violations by Israeli extremists and the Israeli occupation forces, Momani said.

The Jerusalem Awqaf Department, which is affiliated with the Awqaf Ministry, will be in charge of the cameras through a control room, he noted, stressing the legal, moral and religious importance of this step, aimed at safeguarding holy sites against Israeli acts of aggression.

By installing the cameras, Jordan seeks to document these violations and enable 1.7 billion Muslims to follow what is happening in the courtyards of Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest shrine, on the Internet, Momani said.

Palestinians should love that, right? After all, they said that Jews violating the sanctity of the Al Aqsa Mosque was the entire reason they started stabbing random Jews to begin with - why wouldn't they want documentation of these rampaging Jews?

As Khaled Abu Toameh wrote last November, here's why:

Shortly after Israel accepted the idea, the Palestinian Authority rushed to denounce it as a "new trap." PA Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki and other officials in Ramallah expressed concern that Israel would use the cameras to "arrest Palestinians under the pretext of incitement."

During the past two years, the Palestinian Authority and other parties, including Hamas and the Islamic Movement (Northern Branch) in Israel, have been waging a campaign of incitement against Jewish visits to the Haram al-Sharif. The campaign claimed that Jews were planning to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In an attempt to prevent Jews from entering the approximately 37-acre (150,000 m2) site, the Palestinian Authority and the Islamic Movement in Israel hired scores of Muslim men and women to harass the Jewish visitors and the police officers escorting them. The men are referred to as Murabitoun, while the women are called Murabitat (defenders or guardians of the faith).

These men and women have since been filmed shouting and trying to assault Jews and policemen at the Haram al-Sharif. This type of video evidence is something that the Palestinian Authority is trying to avoid. The PA, together with the Islamic Movement, wants the men and women to continue harassing the Jews under the pretext of "defending" the Al-Aqsa Mosque from "destruction" and "contamination."

The installation of surveillance cameras at the site will expose the aggressive behavior of the Murabitoun and Murabitat, and show the world who is really "desecrating" the Islamic holy sites and turning them into a base for assaulting and abusing Jewish visitors and policemen.

The cameras are also likely to refute the claim that Jews are "violently invading" Al-Aqsa Mosque and holding prayers at the Temple Mount. The Palestinian Authority, Hamas and the Islamic Movement have long been describing the Jewish visits as a "provocative and violent incursion" into Al-Aqsa Mosque. But now the cameras will show that Jews do not enter Al-Aqsa Mosque, as the Palestinians have been claiming.

Another reason the Palestinians are opposed to King Abdullah's idea is their fear that the cameras would expose that Palestinians have been smuggling stones, firebombs and pipe bombs into Al-Aqsa Mosque for the past two years. These are scenes at the PA, Hamas and the Islamic Movement do not want the world to see: they show who is really "contaminating" the Haram al-Sharif. Needless to say, no Jewish visitors have thus far been caught trying to smuggle such weapons into the holy site.

And he has been proven to be 100% right. Al Monitor reported three weeks ago:

Kamal al-Khatib, deputy head of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied territories, told Al-Monitor, “We do not doubt the Jordanian intentions, but we think that these cameras will help Israel watch believers who deter the settlers’ incursions into Al-Aqsa mosque [compound].”

He added, “Internet networks in Jerusalem are connected to the Israeli communication networks, and Israel’s security system is capable of unlocking the cameras and watching what is on them, thanks to Israel’s advanced techniques. This would allow the latter to observe the defenders and believers at Al-Aqsa.”

Hassan Khater, head of the Jerusalem International Center and former director of the Islamic-Christian Commission For the Support of Jerusalem and Holy Sites, told Al-Monitor that Jerusalem’s Palestinian citizens reject the camera installation because of their bad experiences in the past. “Although the cameras [can be] beneficial, their disadvantages outweigh their advantages, especially in terms of security and pursuit of believers,” he said. The camera installation will have serious repercussions, as it will facilitate Israeli settlers' raids and lead to the pursuit of Al-Aqsa frequenters who try to deter them, he said.

The "defenders and believers" are the Mourabitoun who violently try to prevent Jews from peacefully visiting their holiest site. And cameras would expose what we've known all along.

After all, there are many hours of footage of Jews quietly visiting the Temple Mount taken by Muslims on YouTube. And there are many hours of footage from the same sources showing the Muslims acting aggressively and violently towards the Jews.

Jordan and the other Arab countries heard all the Palestinian propaganda about how Jews are "storming Al Aqsa" and they thought that it was a slam dunk to place cameras on the site to catch the Jews in the act. What they didn't quite realize was that their Palestinian brethren have been lying about this for years, and that they are the ones whose violent actions would have been caught by the cameras.

The entire "knife intifada" was built on a lie and the cameras would have proven that.

Now the Palestinians have convinced the Jordanians to drop the camera plan, and you just know that the Jordanians are a little less sympathetic towards the Palestinians who have been lying to them so egregiously for so long about one of their central claims.

Palestinian dies of tear gas inhalation, 40 others wounded in clashes at Qalandiya

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man was pronounced dead on Friday after suffering from excessive tear gas inhalation after Israeli forces heavily fired tear gas at crowds, reportedly wounding some 40 others, as Palestinians attempted to cross the Qalandiya checkpoint from Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank into Jerusalem to attend prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The man, identified by medical sources as Muhammad Mustafa Habash, 63, from the Asira al-Shamaliya village in the northern occupied West Bank district of Nablus, was one of at least 40 Palestinians who suffered from severe tear gas inhalation during clashes that broke out at the Qalandiya checkpoint.

Witnesses told Ma’an that Palestinian Red Crescent paramedics were prevented by Israeli forces from treating the man at the start of the incident. However, they eventually were able to reach him.

A paramedic gave the man CPR before he was transported to the Ramallah Governmental Hospital for treatment and put in intensive care.

The Ministry of Health later pronounced the man dead.
