My entire Family served in British and Pakistan army and i will ask them about your Father's regiment.

Well he was commissioned into the Gurkha regiment , after that he was shifted a few times before becoming a staff officer. i was not even born then ,so doubt i can tell you , i know he retired as CO 2 Maratha LI.

My grandfather's regiment resisted major attack of Gurkha regiment in 1948 at JassaPeer sector. Gorkhas are very well renowned fighters in world.

Yes they are. My father joined as an ECO in 62 , after that spent the rest of his life in the army . we hardly saw him growing up .

That is Gen.Krishnaswamy Sundarji who was COAS of the IA.
Now on-topic: @anant_s some great pics there; of a time that I have seen a few pics of and heard stories about too.... like in Europe and Burma in WW2. Burma was a river of mud most of the time, foot-slogging through that was hard enough.
