European consortium MBDA has provided their 300km-range Taurus stand-off missile system to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

“We have got a request for information (RFI) from IAF for a stand-off long range missile and we have provided the Taurus missiles as we think that it meets all the expected requirements”, Anders Axebark, the business development manager for the missile systems addressed a group of Indian journalists.

The Taurus air-to-ground missiles are designed by Germany-based Taurus systems GmbH, which is a joint business between MBDA and the Swedish Defense Major Saab. MBDA is a missile producing company situated in Italy, Britain, France and Germany.

Indian Air Force has decided to upgrade its Su-30MKI in collaboration with Russia to equip the aircrafts with the better radar, long range weapons, and avionics to further increase its capability.

Axebark said that the missile’s capability was briefed to the Indian counterparts at the Air Headquarters in New Delhi.

“The German Air Force is also planning to carry out a test-firing of the missile for the IAF in November at one of the field-firing ranges in South Africa,” he said.

Axebark noted that his organization has talked to the DRDO about the system and further possible projects in the department of anti-ship missiles, surface to surface missiles and even transport aircraft launched missiles. Regarding the transport aircrafts, India has recently ordered the American C-130J aircraft and the C-17 Globemaster.

The Taurus GmbH is also pitching in the land based version of the missile system saying that the missile system could be used against bunkers and concrete shelters from a stand-off range of 300km and it is independent of using the GPS system to track its target.

The MBDA has as well provided its MICA and Meteor missiles to the IAF and pointed that they could be operational in different aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

Well , MMRCA weapon's Package is expected to include 120 Stand off Missiles

apart from 800 Bvraam , 400 WVR , 300 Heat seeking , 1000 Anti Armour , 72 Anti ship , 2000 LGB Kits

do anyone knows IAF will induct how many Rafale B (twin seater) & how many Rafale C (single seater), why don't IAF induct all 126 Rafale B's as it always prefer twin seater aircrafts over single seaters like in case of su-30mki's & FGFA.

10 years? Do some research before spouting nonsense- the deal will be signed this FY and the contract stipulates the first jet MUST enter service within 36 months of the deal being signed so 2014/15 is the timeline we are realistically looking at. Let's e honest- the IAF has the $$$ so if they want the Meteor (which is likely and the exact weapons package the IAF will be getting is still not knwon) they will bloody well get it. The French know how much they owe India for this contract and are bending over backwards to accommodate India's every request- not to mention it won't hurt MBDA to make some extra sales and revenue.

as per RFP
80 will be single seater and 46 will be twin seaters

with option for 44 Single seater and 20 Double seater

Even in case of FGFA

IAF has decided to go with 166 Single seater and 48 Double seaters

126 Rafales is about 6 SQDs worth (18-20 fighters per SQD) and for every SQD the majority will be "C" single-seaters with 2-3 per SQD being "B" twin-seaters used for operational training and for C&C platforms for the SQD flight groups in times of conflict. These figures may vary depending slightly on IAF requirements and individual SQD designations but the vast majority will be "C" single-seaters. Look at IN and Mig-29K/KUB for comparison- similar division of platforms.

Yeah I read similar news but am still pretty unsure how accurate this news is expecially given it contradicts almost everything previously stated by IAF and media outlets.

I have read that according to IAF operational doctrine (India, Russia to have different versions of same fighter plane : Latest Headlines, News - India Today), it prefers twin seater aircrafts over single seaters this gives greater radius of combat operations & more situational awareness, that's why it preferred twin seaters su-30mki's over other aircrafts, so i don't understand why IAF is going for single seater aircrafts in the future inventory (FGFA & Rafales).
