There’s No Escaping MBDA’s Meteor Missile

. .
There was some talk on integrating this missile for the Sukhoi-30MKI as well, hope we get it in the super sukhoi upgrade( whose details are still classified).

European consortium MBDA has provided their 300km-range Taurus stand-off missile system to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

“We have got a request for information (RFI) from IAF for a stand-off long range missile and we have provided the Taurus missiles as we think that it meets all the expected requirements”, Anders Axebark, the business development manager for the missile systems addressed a group of Indian journalists.

The Taurus air-to-ground missiles are designed by Germany-based Taurus systems GmbH, which is a joint business between MBDA and the Swedish Defense Major Saab. MBDA is a missile producing company situated in Italy, Britain, France and Germany.

Indian Air Force has decided to upgrade its Su-30MKI in collaboration with Russia to equip the aircrafts with the better radar, long range weapons, and avionics to further increase its capability.
Axebark said that the missile’s capability was briefed to the Indian counterparts at the Air Headquarters in New Delhi.

“The German Air Force is also planning to carry out a test-firing of the missile for the IAF in November at one of the field-firing ranges in South Africa,” he said.

Axebark noted that his organization has talked to the DRDO about the system and further possible projects in the department of anti-ship missiles, surface to surface missiles and even transport aircraft launched missiles. Regarding the transport aircrafts, India has recently ordered the American C-130J aircraft and the C-17 Globemaster.

The Taurus GmbH is also pitching in the land based version of the missile system saying that the missile system could be used against bunkers and concrete shelters from a stand-off range of 300km and it is independent of using the GPS system to track its target.

The MBDA has as well provided its MICA and Meteor missiles to the IAF and pointed that they could be operational in different aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

MBDA Meteor unit price : 14,60,00,000 Pakistani rupees.

Yes, more than 1.5 million a pop. :D

What's your source?

Plus its the highest tech they are going to get i don't think that they are going to sell it to others any soon.

But assures Thales: Each aircraft would be like a new fighter, with contemporary combat suites and missiles, including possibly the “most advanced Meteor missile if India wants it.” An active radar guided beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM), it is still under development but is on offer on both the Rafale and Eurofighter.

..:: India Strategic ::. IAF, Thales sign Mirage combat jet upgrade contract for $2.4 bn

Bwahahaha :D

No doubt its extremely expensive but its capabilities are also far better than current market competition.
So once we get these babies introduced into the rafales and hopefully the mirages as well, what will be the role of the micas we are buying? just as a dogfighting missile? MICA is far too expensive to be used only as a dogfighting missile - a better and cheaper option would have been the IRIS-T

. . .
And rafale are coming in 2018.
If you mean the ones produced by HAL then you're probably right but the first 18 will most probably arrive within 3 yrs of signing the contract ( This was part of the RFI for MMRCA), so we should see the first 18 in service by 2016

And rafale are coming in 2018.

Unlikely, if GoI signs contract in first half of 2013, 18 Rafales will be flown in from France within a year, while HAL will start producing fighters from knocked down units initially. So around 2 squadrons will be ready by the end of 2015. :drag:

Two more questions.

Can this missile dodge flares?

When india is purchasing TAURUS KEPD 350?

This deal is not certain - India just issued an RFI and MBDA responded with the Taurus - If we select it then most probably we'll get it with the super sukhoi upgrade
