The commonly spoken language in North India is what can be called "Hindustani". It contains some Persian/Arabic words but not a whole lot.

It is a native language, not invented by any foreign invaders. They just mixed some foreign words into it.

Hindi is the same language but written in Devnagari script and replces these foreign (tadbhav) words with Sanskrit root words (tatsam).

Urdu is the same language but tries to emphasise the foreign words a bit more and uses the foreign script (Arabic).

In the common spoken language of people, they are the same.

It doesn't have to be this way. We parted ways and now its best we leave each other alone and not obsess about each other's issues where they don't concern us.

DW about it too much, OP prolly didnt "realize" that Pakistanis themselves write the same way. I mean how hard is to comprehend that there is no strong "r" in English language.

It's funny if a tribal or any Pakistani tells me how I should be speaking Hindi! I don't tell him how he speaks his Pushto, plain and simple.

"chhod" is [/SIZE]write..... but by De facto standard


[while writing a hindi word in english doesn't matter spelling wise and differs many time, depens upon readers and writers intention),]
ex.chhod do aachal/achal, chordo aachal/achal

[but in hindi it matter a lot, n that word should be 101% unique by both pronunciation and spelling wise]

The language used in Indian Hindi film industry is Hindustani, not the "Shudh Hindi" (with no Persian/Arab words) and not the heavily Persianized Urdu that some prefer.

People seem to have a problem grasping the basic concept.

Of course there are films and songs that go towards either extreme but it is true for most Hindi films and songs.

An example of "Shudh Hindi" song.

A song tending towards more "Urdu" (using words like kayanat rather than sansaar (Hindi) )

BTW, both songs are beautiful and excellent music can be created in both. The difference is only in emphasis and most people in India will have no issues with any of them.

Nowhere in the world (except the subcontinent) would these songs be intelligible.

For North Indians, it would be their native language. For other Indians it will be, because they learned it because they are exposed to the language so much.

For most Pakistanis (not Mohajirs), it would be the same. It is not their native language but they are exposed to it, being their "national language" and because it is the language of the media as well.

We do use words like Arab (for billion), Kharab (100 billion) etc.
