“Anyone who loves freedom and justice must strive for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order to pave the way for world justice and freedom.” So said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to an audience of ambassadors from Muslim countries last Thursday. The ambassadors had convened in Tehran for Quds Day — Jerusalem Day — an annual airing of Islamic supremacist Jew-hatred and Zionist conspiracy-mongering begun by the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979.

The world has grown used to the spectacle of a head of government, Ahmadinejad, calling for the destruction of a nation-state that poses no threat to his regime — after all, he has done it so many times before. But Islamic anti-Semitism is also on the rise around the world. Indeed, so many Muslim leaders around the world so routinely call for the destruction of Israel and a new genocide of the Jews (which would almost certainly go hand-in-hand with that destruction, if it ever actually came about), that such calls are becoming as dull with familiarity as Ahmadinejad’s repeated predictions of Israel’s imminent demise.

Last June, a Pakistani Muslim cleric named Pirzada Muhammad Raza Saqib Mustafai said the following in a YouTube video titled “Jews Are the Real Enemy of Islam and Peace”: “And all the troubles that exist around the world are because of the Jews. When the Jews are wiped out, then the world would be purified and the sun of peace would begin to rise on the entire world.”

Such clerics are not obscure eccentrics enunciating a twisted, hijacked version of Islam. In January 2009, the most popular Islamic preacher in the world, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, said on al-Jazeera: “Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers….”

Qaradawi continued: “I’d like to say that the only thing I hope for is that as my life approaches its end, Allah will give me an opportunity to go to the land of Jihad and resistance, even if in a wheelchair. I will shoot Allah’s enemies, the Jews, and they will throw a bomb at me, and thus, I will seal my life with martyrdom.”

This hatred increasingly plays out in attacks on individuals. A few weeks ago, Shasta Khan, a Muslim woman in Britain, received an eight-year prison sentence for her role in plots to target Jews in bomb attacks. During her trial, she stated that her husband had forced her to drive through Jewish areas looking for likely targets. Last week, police in India indicted a Muslim journalist, Syed Mohammad Kazmi, for his role in the bombing of an Israeli diplomat’s car. Also last week, when the Lebanese Olympic judo team discovered that it was training in sight of the Israeli team, it demanded that a barrier be constructed so that they could not see the Jews; the International Olympic Committee complied. Several days ago in the German town of Stein, a Muslim sprayed two women with tear gas because one of them was wearing a Star of David. And last week in Santa Monica, California, the trial began of Tehmina Adaya, the Muslim owner of the Shangri-La resort hotel. Adaya is charged with discrimination against Jewish hotel guests: she allegedly told hotel staff to “Get the [expletive deleted] Jews out of my pool.”

During a July sermon in the Grand Mosque of Srinigar, the Kashmiri Muslim separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq declared: “Muslims all over the world have a problem with Israel due to its aggressive policy towards Palestine.” But even if all the charges against Israel that the Palestinian propaganda machine churns out were true, this would not by any rational standard justify the Muslim attacks on Jews worldwide, or the apocalyptic genocide dreams of Mustafai, Qaradawi, and others like them.

The origin of that hatred lies deeper, within the Islamic religion itself. The Qur’an contains a great deal of material that forms the foundation for a hatred of Jews, portraying them as the craftiest, most persistent, and most implacable enemies of the Muslims – indeed, they are the “the most hostile of men to the believers” (5:82). In 2004 the popular Muslim website Islam Online posted an article titled “Jews as Depicted in the Qur’an,” in which Sheikh ‘Atiyyah Saqr, the former head of the Fatwa Committee at the most respected institution in Sunni Islam, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, depicts Jews in a chillingly negative light, illustrated with abundant quotations from the Qur’an. Among other charges he levels at the Jews, Saqr says that they “used to fabricate things and falsely ascribe them to Allah”; they “love to listen to lies”; they disobey Allah and ignore his commands; they wish “evil for people” and try to “mislead them”; and they “feel pain to see others in happiness and are gleeful when others are afflicted with a calamity.” He adds that “it is easy for them to slay people and kill innocents,” for “they are merciless and heartless.” And each charge he follows with Qur’anic citations.

It is this hatred that lies at the root of the hatred of Israel and of Jews manifested today by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and so many others. Even if Israel were destroyed, their Jew-hatred would not be assuaged, for it is based on Islamic teachings about the nature of the world itself, not on the vagaries of geopolitics. And that is how it must be confronted: until the international human rights community confronts Islamic anti-Semitism as a phenomenon, ever more innocent people will be victimized around the world. But perhaps that community is too consumed with studying the chimerical phenomenon of “Islamophobia” to divert much attention elsewhere.

The world has grown used to the spectacle of a head of government, Ahmadinejad, calling for the destruction of a nation-state that poses no threat to his regime — after all, he has done it so many times before.

No, he didn't.

In the very first sentence of the article, Ahmadinejad is quoted as saying that he wants to get rid of the "Zionist regime".

Specifically the regime, not the country itself.

Plenty of people hate the Chinese "regime" as well, including your dear self Solomon. But that obviously does not equate to "calling for the destruction of a nation", now does it?

. . .
Chinese are good businessmen. They have relations with Israel and they won't upset enemies of Israel too....They don't get involved in problems of others as long as its not affecting them. They leave the so called Moral Policing to US and think more about their country.

thats how USA was pre-1941, ever since Pearl Harbor, US has been morally policing the world

.
I have serious issues with the term "anti semitism". How can Muslims be anti Semitic when our own Prophet was Semitic. (To those who dont know, the term Semitic includes various ethnic groups like Arabs, Hebrews, Assyrians etc.)

Chinese are good learners. They take what's best out there and improve according to their needs. I always think why India don't take few lessons from China. They learned a lot through history, while we are still making same mistakes.

.
Judging by my own observations, most Muslims don't really hate the regular Jews that are simply trying to make the best out of their lives similar to the rest of us. This hatred is generally directed towards the elites or those in power. The state of Israel & its so called "occupation" of Palestine is quite frankly despised by many Muslims. If Israel & Palestine adopt the 2 states solution resulting in an end of all hostilities, I am certain a lot of the hatred towards Israel would disappear among a sizable populace. Of course, there would always be a few people that are likely to desire Israel's utter destruction even if Palestine & Israel were to coexist peacefully. The point being that it's impossible to please everyone, thus the aim should be to earn the respect of the majority.

The article refers to acts of violence & other stupidity directed towards the Jews, which I happen to find appalling. There is no excuse for attacks on innocent people & the perpetrators deserve whatever punishment they get. As for the incident concerning the Lebanese Olympic judo team, it's obvious that the team is retarded & it deserves condemnation for its behavior. It is important to point out that these actions don't represent the majority of Muslims.

Another important point to bring up while discussing anti-Semitism is conspiracy theories. We are not here to discuss the validity of those theories, but pretty much every conspiracy theory tends to directly or indirectly involve the Jews. Many of those who read them or hear about them, end up believing them. Greater effort to refute these theories would result in a major decline in anti-Semitism. There has obviously been an effort to refute them. Unfortunately, the effort undertaken so far has failed to convince a number of people; including some politicians & commoners.

Moving on to religion, there are a couple of ridiculous Muslim clerics who hate all non-Muslims in general. It's difficult to control these people, some Muslim majority countries have managed to control them by stripping them of the authority to present "fatwas" (religious verdicts) or preach publicly. Unfortunately, these methods aren't always successful, & more solutions need to be brought about to limit their influence. It is also true that some verses of the Quran scold the Jews, but there are many verses like this one, that speak well of the Israelites. Other Abrahamic scriptures speak ill of pagans & idol worshipers, but this does not mean that they are promoting hatred for them. Even the book of Deuteronomy contains verses like this one, which happens to speak ill of the Israelites. The point is that it isn't right to present our religious text in a bad light just because some individuals have misinterpreted it. Anyway, these were my views on the subject.

Although I find Robert Spencer dishonest and his books dull, he is right about one thing. Israel not being in the picture will not completely eradicate Antisemitism from all the Muslim minds.
The creation of the Jewish state in no way created Muslim hatred for the Jews, it was always slumbering around. It merely intensified by the existence of Israel.
I don't find the Quran anti-Semitic in its core as Robert Spencer asserts. Yes, the Quran indeed critises the Children of Israel, but taking the verses in their right historical context and understanding can nullify this argument. More problematic may be the Hadiths & other scriptures, their interpretation or the weight that's given to them. For example, I read portions of the exegesis of Ibn Kathir, the author is almost constantly cursing the Jews. Comparably to these are Christian medieval writings and sermons, in which Jews were abused.
What I object is that the stamped hatred for the Jews cannot be eliminated from the Muslim mind. If Christians can do it, then why not Muslims? The path is dark now, in the future it might be brighter:

A liberal Muslim and critically acclaimed author explores the historical, political, and theological basis for centuries of Muslim animosity towards Jews, debunking long-held myths and tracing a history of hate and its impact today.

More than nine years after 9/11 and 60 years after the creation of the state of Israel, the world is no closer to solving, let alone understanding, the psychological and political divide between Jews and Muslims. While countless books have been written on the subject of terrorism, political Islam, and jihad, barely a handful address the theological and historical basis of the Jew—Muslim divide. Following the terrorist attacks on Mumbai in November 2008, in which Pakistani jihadis sought out and murdered the members of a local Jewish centre, Tarek Fatah began an in-depth investigation of the historical basis for the crime.

In this provocative new book, Fatah uses extensive research to trace how literature from as early as the seventh century has fueled the hatred of Jews by Muslims. Fatah debunks the anti-Jewish writings of the Hadith literature, takes apart the Arab supremacist doctrines that lend fuel to the fire, and reinterprets supposed anti-Jewish passages in the Quran. In doing so he argues that hating Jews is against the essence of the Islamic spirit and suggests what needs to be done to eliminate the agonizing friction between the two communities.

The Worldwide Rise of Islamic Anti-Semitism

Even if Israel were destroyed, their Jew-hatred would not be assuaged.

Not true. How does this man who lies so regularly speak for us.
antisemitism among Muslims is on the rise sure...

As it is on the rise everywhere else. You see in times of economic downturn people become more extreme in their views. In their pursuit to look for a bit of hope they will go for any bit of hope they can get even if that hope is from an extremist who gives false hope. I think you will find antisemitism is also on the rise among people of other religions and cultures.

But admittedly nowhere is it as extreme as in the Islamic world.

I was tempted to not even bother replying after I saw this fools name.
Both him and Pam Geller are two people that disgust me!

They lie about Islam and spread all sorts of misinformation. They thrive off the down-fall of Islam and ironically they are as extreme as Mr Ahmadinejad in some ways.

August 8, 2012 - 12:00 am

Israel pose no threat?

Please... spare me this BS.
Why wouldn't Iran or any other Muslim nation feel threatened?
Even after it's creation Palestinian land started to disappear. Many were forced out of their homes.
Israel and the land for the Jews was originally a fraction of the land in Palestine. Most of the land belonged to Arabs.
But for some strange reason and God given right within a few months and years of it's independence Israel went on to controlling most of Palestine.

This hostility towards Arabs and Muslims started way back then, before the Iranian revolution. Of course it takes two to tango and Arabs were hostile towards Jews. But after the world knew about Israel's nukes, why wouldn't Iran feel threatened?
It's allies were also attacked. Air strikes on Syrian installations. How is it fair that only Israel holds nukes in the region. Is it more responsible? No. They have displayed more aggression than anyone.

Even on-going.

Their settlements in the West Bank and Gaza strip are a violation of international law reflected in Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Any country thinks they can disobey international law and get away with it without even a word said from the powers that govern the world. This is why Israel major.

And many times it seems the Israeli and Jewish lobby in the States supports unnecessary wars. All while they enforce thier influence and Israel pockets billions of dollars worth of aid while behaiv

Those people are extremists. I'm sure you have them too.
After all while I agree that antisemitism is on the rise among Muslims but you must admit that Islamophobia is on the rise among Jews and the West and the rate of the rise of islamophobia is far more alarming than this topic.

See how much of a hypocrite he is? He is on the front line with his propaganda in the US.

Funny you have highlighted the word Pakistani.
Does he represent all of us?

So if an Israeli citizen were to say that the entire Muslim population should be wiped out (which many have said).
Should we condemn the entire population of jews?

More hypocrisy!

Again this quote has been tampered with by Spencer.

But he was right Jews have been persecuted for thousands of years.
He seems to have acknowledged that Hitler was part of this. Nowhere did he applaud it.

And for his comment that believers should be next in line to deal with them.
I don't agree with him, antisemitism is wrong and unjust however against the state of Israel I am all for it.

Jews aren't to blame but Israel is.

Again he doesn't speak for us all.

I'd like a source for this quote. Qaradawi is also the man who condemns terrorism. These words are very similar to the twisted lies Spencer does preach about Jihad.

And nowhere where I found the above quote could I find this next part to it.

More from individuals why should I even bother to cross-reference and see whether these quotes are true.
hell even if they are they are non-representative. Similar to how Spencer can't differentiate between Muslims and Al-Qaeda.

The origin of that hatred lies deeper, within the Islamic religion itself. The Qur’an contains a great deal of material that forms the foundation for a hatred of Jews, portraying them as the craftiest, most persistent, and most implacable enemies of the Muslims – indeed, they are the “the most hostile of men to the believers” (5:82). he hasn't given any references. How am i supposed to believe that these are the words written in the Qur'an.
But I have seen some similar quotes while searching the internet and reliable sources.
It says that some of the jews can never be your friend. In this day and age it seems true, the Zionist jew has made himself our worst enemy. And the aggression started from him and not us.

[/QUOTE]It is this hatred that lies at the root of the hatred of Israel and of Jews manifested today by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and so many others. Even if Israel were destroyed, their Jew-hatred would not be assuaged, for it is based on Islamic teachings about the nature of the world itself, not on the vagaries of geopolitics.

Not true Islam doesn't promote antisemitism. Israel's disgusting crimes do.
And we genuinely feel threatened by the Zionist Jewish state.

If the above is true, how is it that for hundreds of years before British rule did Jews and Arabs peacefully co-exist in Palestine?

And that is how it must be confronted: until the international human rights community confronts Islamic anti-Semitism as a phenomenon, ever more innocent people will be victimized around the world. But perhaps that community is too consumed with studying the chimerical phenomenon of “Islamophobia” to divert much attention elsewhere.

I LOLed!

Why not do something about the cause get rid of the crimes the Zionist Jews commit, make them obey international law.
Then don't spew hypocrisy elsewhere. Here Spencer is calling on the international human rights commit against Islam.
Why not against Israel for war crimes, crimes against humanity and violation international law?

Robert Spencer and his dog Pam Geller...

Are both liars! They lie, they spew hatred and they deceive others.
They have always thrown around false propaganda against Islam and Muslims.

This article is no different.

People who call for the elimination of the Chinese Communist regime think in terms of a free China afterward. People who call for elimination of the Zionist regime think in terms of NO JEWS afterward. You don't have to believe me; just ask the anti-Zionists.

Robert Spencer, are you serious bro? Surely, even "Solomon" can't be that brainwashed?
If the best you can do to destroy a person's words is to engage in unsupported ad hominem attacks then you've already lost the battle - at least where I'm concerned.

You're joking right?

So having a problem with the Chinese regime = Nice and Politically correct. (Fair enough).

Having a problem with the Israeli regime = Calling for the annihilation of an entire race of people?

At least be consistent. Israel and Iran surely are not friends, but the likelihood of the mutual annihilation of both populations is not high at all, certainly lower than the probability of a US-Russia nuclear exchange.
