The World's Top 100 Airlines in 2014 - 3 GCC Arab airlines in the top 10

I am yet to try Cathay Pacific Airways. Know most of the top 10 airlines.;)
Emirates and Qatar are better in my eyes. I actually question Cathay being number one somehow i am not convinced but maybe my experience was unique.

as much as throwing money is supposed to help the problem it will not. The waiting time at airports, the services of the ground staff, the utter disregard for work ethics and the abrupt Saudization plans make travelling a headache unless you know people and no tourist or pilgrim does. The Saudis need to think large parts of their airline strategy because as many planes as you have if you treat people like dirt they will not fly with you.

I was wrong. It was actually a jump from 103 to 77.

I never had any major problems with Saudia although they are far from the standards witnessed when flying with Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Oman Air etc. They should not differentiate between locals and foreigners and the laissez faire attitude is something that needs to change and I believe that it will with time. Saudia is not the same airline that it was 10 years ago.

@waz @Gufi

This list was decided by the votes of close to 19 million travelers from around the world. So not just some random "expert" making a random list.

Qatar airways was in my top list but Etihad has that luxurious feel which I never felt even in Emirates. However, I prefer any of these over any other airlines.

Neither have I but i have seen people go crazy in lines because of the lethargic attitude of the staff. Boarding cards should take minutes, not near an hour but let us hope for the best.

they are not airlines just a glorified bus service.

It's a Middle Eastern and "Southern" thing I have noticed. I have witnessed really lethargic attitude from staff in Southern Europe too compared to the standards found in Northern and Western Europe. I am not even going to talk about other areas of Asia. Similar attitudes in most of Latin America and Africa if we are to believe most customers.

Speaking about Saudia.

Speaking about Saudia.
The issues with Saudia Airlines are
  • Saudization
  • unqualified people on higher management
  • preference of pay based on Passports
  • aversion to reform
  • lack of respect for passengers
  • and their planes for south asian routes are not even fit to fly to EU
  • their flight planning is the stupidest in the world

I have never been to South Asia hence never used Saudia from KSA to South Asian countries so I have no ideas about that. I never faced any problems with the staff or when boarding. The planes I flew with were not old either. I usually flew with an Airbus A330.

Saudization is good and necessary on the long run. Still like with all other international airlines the diversity of the employees will be significant. New employees will have to learn it the hard way like any other airline did at one point in time.

Anyway good to see you back. It would be a shame if you left due to such a tiny thing.;)

Times are changing dear. Saudization is necessary as the "native" population increases. Manual jobs have a low pay, are not attractive and are quickly dying out. The society is moving towards a knowledge based society where education will be the key to success. Those that fall behind that development will face unemployment or will have to settle with less attractive jobs. On the other hand KSA is home to one of the biggest migrant groups in the world and they are often willing to work for a lower pay or a highly educated (the high salaries, no taxation etc. attracts them to the GCC) so this creates unemployment among especially native youngsters who have to compete with them. Thus some level of "Saudization" is required. Not here and now but on the long run it is necessary.

I respect that brother. Well that was rude of him or her.

Anyway we are a bit off-topic currently.;)

Passenger safety probably didn't count, Malaysia Airlines being #18.

Different ratings here?

Heading the list is Air New Zealand followed by Etihad Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Qantas Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, EVA Air, Lufthansa, All Nippon Airways and British Airways.
