The Women on Wheels campaign kicks off in Karachi and it's inspiring

The campaign, which hopes to empower women by improving their access to mobility, had its launch today

After a successful run in Punjab, the Women on Wheels campaign has landed in Karachi, with it's launch happening today on Sunday.

The programme - which empowers women by improving their access to mobility - provides subsidized motorbikes for women, as well as training and road safety lessons and networking opportunities.

And from the looks of it, it did pretty well!

Salman Sufi, who introduced the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016 and South Asia’s first Violence Against Women Centre, says he is launching the Karachi programme for WOW in a private capacity.

According to Sufi, the bulk of Pakistan’s female population heavily relies on either a male family member or a poor public transport infrastructure to get from one place to another. And as he's said, this should not be the case.

You know i am amazed at how our auto manufacturers are ...
Scooters are an untapped market with a potential of huge demands , well some of the blame can be put on the government too.

Scooter is a market which can be geared towards female and elderly population enabling a good chunk of our population movement..
And not only that if scooter manufacturing was at the same size as our motorbike industry it would be wayy cheaper to but and maintain a scooter..
Not to mention it is much easier to convert/manufacturer electric scooters than motorbikes.

Ahhh Honda 125 i remember during university time my Elder brother came back from KSA the first thing he did was beat the shit out of me because of driving Honda 125 , hahahaha my cousin was also scolded , we both were skinnies

Though a modern scooter, like the TVS Jupiter ( from India ) below looks "professional" for men too I would say that a scooter or motorcycle creates more traffic problems than any problem that it resolves.

I will also say that for any scientific planning for traffic, all privately owned commuting vehicles ( two wheeler or four wheeler ) should be banned in favor of regular taxis, to-the-door ride-hailing methods like Uber ( and Ola of India ) and ride-sharing methods like Airlift of Pakistan.

The second part of your reply is a must and should be implemented but, in pakistan local transport is in misery specially in big cities. Ladies have to wait too long for transport and even then they just have 4-6 seats allocated to ladies in a bus of 30-40. So they do need scooters, it help that way. Also in many areas you can not find a single taxi/bus on roads after maghrib. So if a lady have emergency or is late then either she have to suffer, take risk with private taxis or call brother/cousin to come and pick her. Scooties must be brought to Pakistan and then even the liberals will be happy . Here, three benefits in a single paragraph.

Who was stopping women from riding motorcycles that they needed this campaign? I remember seeing women riding motorcycles in Pakistan and no one was objecting. Hell i was once overtaken by a girl pulling a wheelie in Sialkot. I used to be a hardcore rider when I was in Pakistan.

Here, let me help you a little. I was born in a Muslim family, I practiced Islam a little and then I left. Now if I believe that God doesn't exist then I'll be an Atheist. And, if I am not sure whether God exists or not then I will be an Agnostic provided that I am not practising or believing in some organised religion which in this case would be Islam and the God would be Allah. In other words, an Ex Muslim.
