The only system that Syria has that could stop these missile is the Pantsyir system, which is a short range system.

It is also possible that an Iranian air defense system intercepted the missiles if it was indeed an attack on an Iranian base.

Could be Irani system but Iran is silent and that makes it a less Irani issue. Now Iran silent could be because they don't want to shout and engage in any talks with Israel. But at this point I can make assumptions and the best assumption is that it was a advanced Buck missile integrated with S-400 Radar. The problem is not intercepting it the detection and astonishingly Syrians were able to detect it. It could be also Irani system as Iran is also interested in S-400 and has obtained S-300 and Irani system are integrated with S-400 radar.

In my obsolete head the only thing that could be possible is that S-400 was not needed in Syria it is an over kill by Russians the only reason is to use the system for detection and use other local assets to intercept or get a better lock if Russians have this integration with Syrian anti Air assets and Irani assets than Syrian Air space is an area denial situation now God know better what is going on but it seems so.

Thats because it was hezbollah that directly responded to the attack in question ,which by the way had been directed at hezbollah in the first place not iran,in fact the israelis claimed in the aftermath of the attack that they didnt even know that the iranian officer was in the targeted vehicle.Ten days after the israeli attack hezbollah retaliated by destroying 2 vehicles in an idf convoy,killing 2 idf soldiers and wounding several more.

Actually the syrians possess at least 3 modern mobile sam systems with the capability to intercept stand off weapons,these are the buk,the pantsir and the tunguska.The big problem is the lack of warning time,ideally for these systems to be most effective you would want to forward deploy them into lebanon where they can not only keep an eye on the border with northern israel but can also act as a deterrent to israel airforce violations of lebanese airspace where a lot of these stand off attacks are actually launched from.Ideally at some point the syrians will need to be supplied with brand new modern long range systems with either the s300/400 or bavar 373 being the most likely candidates for this.

Lol, Syria said they intercepted Jericho 1 missile, which beside from the fact it's not longer in use (for many years), it's a ballistic missile and wouldn't be intercepted by this kind of air defense system.
