just wanted to jot down a few lines from a korean point of view. Korea had many centuries of peaceful relationship with China.

But consider this froma Korean point of view. China used to be like europe in that there used to be many kingdons there. over time they became unified and we have one nation today. history could have went some other way and Korea easily could have been China's eastern most province today. That didnt happen of course and a lot of it has to do with good diplomacy being played.

today we see this again in US Korean relations.

Chinese Korean relationship is actually growing each year despite what internet trolls are writing. but this is a very bumpy process as china is still a communist country with a firm committment to support the North Korean dictatorship. Story goes that many of Chona's new technocrats are sympathetic to south korea, but there are still many old guards in that country with friendly feelings towards the north.

By looking at trade volume, the new chinese leadership might foresee a friendly peaceful relationship with Korea as it did for hundreds of years in the past. But China is also. ery concerned about thr immediate future of what may happen if North collapses.

This is the tension and dilemma China faces today.

US and South Korea is strenghtenng their relationship. This is probably in a direct response to the North Korean attacks on south korea and China's support of the North. Besides more aggressive military exercises, Korea also have FTA with america, signed right after Northern provocation. South is even getting closer to Japanese military, which was politically unthinkable in the past. Now I see Korea getting closer to India.

All of this is happening, because of North Korea and China's alliance with them. However South Korea still craves a peaceful relationship with China. we will see what happens i. the future.

China is really not a country where the top leadership can do whtever they feel like. They are in some ways, a victim of their own national propaganda. probably a reason why they are so sympathetic towards the north.

Times changed. "The Korean 4 star general commanding the US" is symbolic. What it means in practice is the use of Korean C4I system to manage battles in the region.

One thing is clear; the ROK military is asked to command US troops in wartime because it is able to. The US does not ask Japanese Defense Ministry to command US troops, for example.
