So he wants Kashmir as a country. I don't think it can survive at all.

but why not?? within a progressive set up and advised by progressives/socialists from other independent-minded countries, the entire area can flourish better than under india and pakistan... the people will be better employed too... there will be internal peace.

also, the end part of the essay gives hint that what really must happen is eventual reunification of the different south asian states, and kashmir as a live progressive state will help the people in south asia to think on those intermediate term lines... what gaddafi calls "greater india" can be given other names like "union of socialist south asia" and so on.

Man, WTF is this progressive thing I keep reading from you?

Is it something to do with impossibly short skirts?

The Chinese have not maintained their ancestral faith.

We have.

Unbroken string from ancient times to today.

Whether you want to argue the place of faith in a civilization, the presence of an unbroken link pips the absence of it, every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

There's more to a culture than religion. The Chinese have had an unbroken civilisation longer than the Indian, given the discontinuity between the IVC and the later Vedic and Puranic.

I suggest you stick to your stock in trade and not get involved in these things. Just suggesting.

Sure. Joe would agree.

I do not.

I do agree. For the simple reason that the Chinese have maintained their ancestral systems. This is without prejudice to my pointing out that religion is not everything in a culture.

So is Pakistan ready to withdraw Kashmir?

So is Pakistan ready to withdraw Kashmir?

if we were to speak of pakistan establishment ( government, military command, intelligence, bureaucracy ), they being a subcontinent establishment wouldn't be that courageous to present such a radical solution by themselves... especially, the government would think "what if the opposition calls us traitors and calls for immediate elections and we lose votes??"

and then withdrawal in case of kashmir also needs to include india of course - withdrawal from both sides... and the chinese side too.

so at the moment, the idea of withdrawal won't be be seen as possibility.

the pakistan establishment certainly knows of this solution, not only from the history of having gaddafi being once a friend but also from it being spoken in the uno general assembly as recent as september 2009.

ideal would be for the progressive activists, students and intellectuals in pakistan so begin speaking of this in forums, conferences, dinners, tea parties... the word will get into newspapers, into the government's ear, into the awareness of political parties ( who will either be immediately opposed or slowly accepting/tolerating, depending on ideology )... it would be ideal for someone forceful like musharraf to speak of this too... word would also get into the ears of the indian establishment... all this will set the momentum towards india/pakistan/china talk on this issue towards intermediate settlement of kashmir.
