I have read that Bawani, Adamjee and Gandhara were big names in East Pakistan prior to 1971, the former two being leaders in the Jute Industry sector. They could have had other business interests. The former Gandhara industries in EP was nationalized in Bangladesh. They used to assemble Vauxhall Viva cars, now they assemble Pajeros for govt. use. Ispahani is still a huge name in Bangladesh, doing rip-roaring business in the Tea production and FMCG food sector. among other things.
