I think this is symbolic. The Imperial Navy , it seems to me, is resurrected to almost par strength of her original potential. Before, in prior visits to Pearl Harbor, the Rising Sun would always be lowered upon entering Hawaii, out of respect. But i notice that now, there is a new stance by the JMSDF. I suppose this new policy change reflects a new organizational change for the Navy, and increased duty responsibilities , as well as a change in perception to war conflicts between Tokyo and Washington.

Pride in unfurling the colours of the Rising Sun. Why hide it? Right. Good to see this.

I hope our American friends see this as a positive development as well. @F-22Raptor @Technogaianist @gambit, @jhungary, et al.

Japan can do two things to counter Chinese arrogance:

- Establishing East Asia military alliance: Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and Philippines, with Japan as leader
- Developing nuclear weapon and providing nuclear umbrella to other members

Japan Can do two things:
1) Rebuild its military power.
2) Retake China again as in 1931.

Point 2 is wet dream like you say. No country in this world is going to "retake" or "invade" China.

Perhaps i am too idealistic, but i cannot help but dream of a unified East Asia. Perchance to dream a day where Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Mongolia and Viet Nam (well we consider Viet Nam as East Asian, anyways) can form a regional cooperation bloc. Where borders will be removed, social and political harmony, and where peace, security and law and order is maintained. Don't you dream of it or think of this possibility , my friend? Sometimes i think it does no benefit to talk about the same things of individual nation states level. We should transcend this individual nation states level and think of a more collective regional level.

yes, I wish we live in the dream world, but unfortunately it is not.

this summer, should Shinzo Abe achieve this goal by scrapping Article 9 of the constitution, Japan would become a "normal" country. that means Japan can wage war if it wants. legal by constitution. has Shinzo Abe cited the oil rig deployment of the chinese into Vietnam waters last summer as one of the reasons why constitution needs to be revised?
