The Belgian company Turbulent has come up with a genius solution to generate energy for small-scale rural areas situated near rivers.

The special Turbine can be installed in most rivers to use the flow of water to produce energy. The company claims that the turbine is enough to power up to 60 homes. According to Turbulent’s website, the turbine is very easy to install and is low maintenance.

How does it work?

The working of the whirlpool turbine is fairly simple.

It has only one moving part thus requiring little maintenance. It has a self-cleaning screen that filters debris out of the turbine. An optimized concrete basin guides the water flow into a vortex that powers a high technology impeller. The water then flows back into the stream. The energy produced can be directly connected to the end-appliances, and can also, simultaneously be connected to the national distribution grid.

There are many companies including Turbulent, which have designed new low pressure and high pressure mechanisms for turbines. Also, there is new tech available in wind turbines.
But Pakistan is a corrupt political and ugly bureaucratic mess.

Little micro projects like this one should be all over our rural areas. We should be looking to make every single village run on 100% renewable energy in 5-10 years.

Frankly I'm disappointed with the limited green energy initiatives PTI has mentioned.

Has anyone on this forum done any research into the best options for Pakistan (and India's) coming water security crisis?

-home/neighborhood-level generation
-creating / preserving glaciers?
-cheap solar?
-water "generation" from humidity, etc.?

It is a great concept and I saw the first whirlpool turbine in an east European city. I really liked the concept and even build a scaled model on my return ... but later forgot about it due to heavy load of studies :)
It can be one of great concepts for Pakistan if your corrupt and slave minded bureaucracy let such projects to be undertaken. There are thousands of new techniques to generate clean and cheap energy but only if we can implement them...

We must work on all forms of renewable energy including wind, solar, sea wave and other forms of renewable energy.

Problem is transfer of tech and cost of that, we need to develop these kind of tech at home.
Its not rocket science, third world countries can easily develop such project.

Problem here is Will ? Do the corrupt politicians and bueraucracy have the will to think and implement out of the box solutions for well being of the civilians. And answer is not very encouraging.
