The sad tale of the LCA

No matter how long it takes, no matter how much funds the LCA guzzles up, this project should never be abandoned as it is the stepping stone towards other future projects, and not only that, when the final product comes into being, it will be one beast that India will be proud of.

LCA is destined to be failed since day-one, as how come a country with ZERO experience of designing fighter jet, plus primitive industrial capability to join the club of high tech industry's of developing advanced fighter jet?

LCA project might have helped Indians in learning more about avionics development, airframe development , weapon integration, and much more but this learning adventure still hasn't completely transformed into a long term solution for IAF. LCA is still awaiting full Op clearance,then after that; 5-7 years service or more it will go through first general overhaul (IF everything goes sooth with LCA).Indian's calling LCA as the next "MIG-21" is too big compliment for this aircraft, LCA has to go long way to come any closer to that.

In a nut shell, seeing LCA competing with Mirage-2000s and Mig29s needs at least a decade more, will LCA be on IAF's list by 2020/2022? By the time IAF will be thinking to induct FGFA and retire their Jaguars/Mig29s will LCA be there in refined form and in large numbers to fill that gap? If not, then IAF will end up in merely running 2/3 squadrons of LCA.

Valuable industrial experience has been, gained from the project. Even if the LCA does reach full induction in 2015, when would it reach its full scale production and squadron integration. That may take another 10 years, the IAF should tag it Tejas-X [Experimental] and pull the plug. With the induction of Rafale, Tejas has no place in the IAF more than a mare ego baggage. AMCA should get the funding and expertise that otherwise would be guzzled up by this white elephant. AMCA may offer more promise to IAF than Tejas can as when Tjeas will reach full fleet strength at best around 2025, many air forces would have superior generation platforms in service.

Those are 3rd generation air craft, which wont last even 5 minutes against modern fighters in combat. LCA is a 4th generation air craft, there is a huge difference.

One of them is a copy of the F-5, which is a 3rd generation. However, as far as the other one is concerned, they say that its a 4.5 generation stealth fighter... From the looks of it, i tend to agree with that.

No country in the world prefers an entire strike force with dual engines , That is why Tejas should be inducted as Point Defence Interceptors

My frnd you are right, no one here realizes that what we have gained from this is place, that is basic facilities, simulators, labs, testing equipment, actuators, industrial partners, production machines, contacts, and joint ventures with top players in this field. More than that people and human skills to build something of this kind. Every single lab that was built under this project was the first of its kind ever in India. I am not gonaa go in details because there is a sticky for this.

India now fully understands the 4-4.5 gen planes. Now most of the world is developing 5th gen and so is India. Good thing is that we don't have to start from scratch anymore. We have labs setup and we have to upgrade the equipment now.

India has learnt the are of designing the cockpit and airframes on its own, also learnt how to build a EW for a fighter jet. The HUD and suit of the pilot is made in India. The engine is called a failure but it achieved many things for India. The radars is now under development for Mk2 version, and we also developed the entire landing gear for this plane. Composites will play a major role in future of Indian aerospace too.

This plane over all is not a failure, but the way it is managed is a biggest failure of world aviation. I have to agree with that.

I am more happy with the contacts, joint ventures and industrial partners we have made with project. LCA will one day retire and leave the world, but there industrial partners have a long way to go in Indian future of aerospace. These small companies of today will one day become world leader in their field. I can already give you a few examples like Astra mircowave which now makes world class Aesa radars.
 
You need some reading.


My point is simple. 3rd generation or any other generation, a country making an aircraft is a big achievement. Iran has gained at least a step that will make them self-sufficient. Getting shot down is another issue, so leave that aside.

LCA has mixed opinions. Some Indians have admitted that it is not entirely 'Indian', while some suggest that it will be when it finally starts production. How do i personally view it? Well its certainly in the JF-17, M2K, Mig-29, and F-16A group for now. However, the longer they delay, the more problems they would face to keep up with day to day changes in modern technology. Oh and BTW, keep in mind that they have designed it a way that will not be capable of seeing improvements like in later blocks. Something needs to be done about that as well...

you can't say that their are many others project that India already completed
