yes russia is a big power as it has been and definitely their military hardware is innovative and proof of russian genius.
sorry to say they dont have the population to be a superpower or even the very dominant economy of 21 century. they will be outtaken before they even rise to their best. russia ia old and poor. the max they could be is a 6 trillion economy by 2025. they will not be the big 3 of 21 century.

Let's face a cold fact; No one remains a superpower being pious. A superpower is made only through actions what US does today, what USSR did then (covertly), what Nazis did before that and what UK, France and Spain did in colonial times. That's how one becomes a superpower. Until one has fierce aggression, one cannot be superpower. But the aggression has to be balanced.

USA lost its balance and thus its present condition.



The question is not about US's decline or even its potential face off with Russia.



They border Black Sea; whether the world likes it or not, they technically are within their right to base navy fleets there (within their territorial waters).

That is why they all succeeded in failing miserably within two centuries, try aggression on others, be it savage or "balanced" and it will undoubtedly fail, unless it is aggressiveness within one self to tap the unlimited riches of one's creativity to produce and outrun others who ignore this fact, aggressiveness of no permanent use or success.
In Islam , it is called Ijtihad, if you have the same principle in Hinduism or other religions, please have a look at it.

its not true russian population is growing again they should have 139 million people according to cia and un but they have 143 million now.

How is russia old and poor?? They are much younger than germany or uk and as young as china and usa, russia is richer than most developing countries especially china and india and its gdp per capita reached the same now as that of poland and other eastern eu countries which is not bad for having much more people.

Russias gdp is bigger than indias and it seems to grow much higher than brazil and india according to the imf in the coming years. More people doesnt result automatically into more power. But lets say china, usa and india will be superpower in the future who will come as the next??

-EU which is breaking apart and is more busy with itself than the rest of the world since ever it was created. Its was never a real country and will never be one.

-Brazil which is growing much slower in the upcoming years. They have only 50 million people more than russia but look what they lacking in the military, trade and foreign policy. They have no veto in the un and Portuguese is not even an official language there.

this doesnt look like that many influence on the world to me. They are also stucked in south america which is not an interesting place in the global affairs like russia which the biggest country on earth bordering or being close to much important countries and regions like china, korea, japan, usa, central asia and europe. Not to mention about what brazil lacks in the military.

-indonesia has more people than both brazil and russia but their economy is not at any comparison of russias and brazils now.

-mexico has lower population and the rest isnt worth mentioning

I completely agree the world is no longer uni polar. But the interesting this is going to be can the baton of the empire in demise ie the Americans be passed on peacefully. This has never been done in the past. Rising and falling empires always have a good old fight
