The Rise of Vigilantism....In India

PR China has done a great job in poverty alleviation (if their figures are to be believed). Also in general tech and almost every parameter. Very commendable.

But they should also stay rooted to their civilizational values which are priceless. Otherwise the progress made can never be sustainable.

Mao's policy was too radical and now we no longer do that. His policy is like when facing a shanty slum town he will drive all the town folks out and level the whole town to the ground, people suffer a lot at first but he believed they can move in to a shiny upscale new town in the future, to achieve that goal they have to be made sacrifice. He won't negotiate for every building and with every landowner for demolition and compensation, cause he believed in that case the shanty town will never go. That's pretty brutal, now Chinese government has compromised a lot.

Brutal? Maybe. It is a revolution, for god's sake! For a country like China, nothing else would work. The more China develops today. the more we come to appreciate what Mao has done for the people of China today. Just Imagine if Mao had left the old social structure untouched when he took power, China would not have been much better than India today.

Civilizations evolve with time, those savage and inhumane elements should be done away for good.

It is not about mere poverty alleviation, and it is not about GDP figures, and it is not about physical achievements China has ahead of many developing countries. It is the liberation of minds and the destruction of old social structure that is doing the wonders for China today.

No. That is fine. Reform is essential in any society. But the connection with the spiritual soul of China should not be lost. Confucian philosophy for example etc are precious and can help tackle the onset of first world problems like rising suicides, depression etc. among general population. All I am saying is that Chinese civilization has the ingredients to make their growth sustainable and balanced.
