India doubled its literacy rate 40% to 80% in the time time period, while critics will always find something to criticize about saying Indias lit rate is too low compared developed world and even many developing countries and India has highest number of illiterate people in the world when you consider the remaining 20% account for more than 250 million people considering population size, I'd still say it's a great achievement so far but clearly lots more need to be done.
