This girl is from Kurdish populated eastern Turkey, the so called ''honor killings'' are still happening in some eastern areas.
The sutiation got better in recent years, there was times where Turkish news was reporting much more frequently about those honor killings, those news became rare in todays Turkey since the punishment for honor killings got harder, ironically made by conservative AKP.

Ironically these things happen because the state is not radical enough on these tribes and their thugs as the report calls it. We call them aşiret in Turkish. They are essentially large families with their own inner rules and codes which is called Töre. They are mostly seen among Kurds in Southeastern parts of Turkey and these honor killings have always been a serious problem in Turkey for some time. Although killings have been increased under Erdogan, but it wasn't nonexistent before him.
