This is sad watching what was a proud secular, modernized, forward thinking country fall slowly into the trap of moving hard right with its islamists government.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkish media say a man is in custody after a young female talent show singer was shot in the head in southeast Turkey — the latest high-profile attack upon a woman in Turkey.

Mutlu Kaya, a 19-year-old Kurd, gained national notice in Turkey in a popular song contest and had been mentored by Sibel Can, a well-known Turkish folk singer.

The state-run Anadolu Agency says an assailant shot Kaya through a window of her house early Monday. Kaya, who had reportedly received death threats after performing in the contest, has been hospitalized in critical condition.

No 1 this is not a criminal act of a shooting over passion, money or other gains. Then, we've witnessed the radical shift towards Islamists ideology, one that is the backbone to such actions.

The basic characteristic of a free & a liberal society is that you let your people do whatever they want to until he doesn't break any law , tell me do you agree with the first statement of erodgan ? i remember a similar incident happened in pakistan i think a few years back when two little girls where killed for dancing in rain , tell me dancing in rain is a such a big crime ? those guys who killed them thought it was unislamic , monsters i would say.

turkey is one of those few muslim countries which is liberal & modern , atleast ten times better than those other arab countries , hope it doesn't fall to this islamic radicalization and i mean it with a lot of genuineness .

This girl is from Kurdish populated eastern Turkey, the so called ''honor killings'' are still happening in some eastern areas.
The sutiation got better in recent years, there was times where Turkish news was reporting much more frequently about those honor killings, those news became rare in todays Turkey since the punishment for honor killings got harder, ironically made by conservative AKP.
