The Pride of 1971 Freedom Fighters

Who is this Zia Uddin? Any one has picture of this guy? I think I have seen him on TV but not sure.

.
Yeah that's why I said predominantly. Also India signed a defence pact with Russia just after the war.

Zionism is like the salt in such threads! :P

@ India did not sign the defence pact after the war, it was during the struggle. To be specific it was on 20 August 1971 Indian signed 25 years mutual friendship with USSR, only than India came forward to help Bangladesh till than the liberation was uncertain.

@ Yes Al-zaker, you are right, you saw him in the TV having a long hair. But now he is doing Awami politics.

@ Colonel Zia was the first Brigrade Commander of Dhaka. During that period he wrote an article without clearance fron Army HQ. Soon he was removed from Army and one fine morning he flade away and joined with Seraj Sikdar, later joined with JSD. He played a key role in releasing General Zia from captive on 7th November 1975.

@ During the liberation war he defected from the front line of Pakistan Army and joined the Liberation War.

Pakistani hardwares were of US made while IA used predominantly Russian weapons, they were of no use to IA except to show off. But then again it's BD sub forum so let's just go with the flow! Evil Bharti Hindu baniya stole paddy, hilsa even kitchen utensils!! Down with the zionists!

@Indian posters, why you guys are beating about the bush? Why do you intentionally derail the topic and say IA did not intend to use these arms, anyway. But, did the article above or any of us say anything in that line? It is a different issue.

Indian intention was to disarm Bangladesh so that the country rtemains weak and could not wage any war against any of its neighbours. And, in the meanwhile, it could dominate over us through their puppets in Dhaka.

.
indian supported , trained , funded militants against pakistan became freedom fighter? most of them were actually indians disguised as freedom fighters. your same freedom fighters killed many innocent pakistanis. lanat on such freedom fighters.

@ To some extend you are correct !!!
@ " Kia, shara dosh(kasur) mira tha ? Kush mera tha, kush tumara tha aur shahed ham donno ka tha ?" Take it easy.

.
It looted at least a thousand million dollars worth of military hardwares and factory machineries, so that we can never again rise our heads above water and we remain the basket case for ever. India was trying to disarm us to keep us weak and Sk. Mujib, though not responsible for those acts himself, was killed afterwards as a collateral.
You and I should get together sometime, sit down and exchange our stash. Yours is obviously of better quality than mine.

After the surrender of Pakistanis on December 16, 1971, Indians were
taking away all the Pakistani arms and military equipment, most of
them very sophisticated and acquired from the US and China. It
appeared odd to a smalltime freedom fighter, a captain, somewhere in
Sylhet.
After the war the Mukti Bahinis were indeed disarmed to ensure that further political violence didn't spread. Mukti Bahinis were not the official armed force of Bangladesh. They were still armed civilians. They needed to be disarmed. The Pakistani POWs were also taken in custody and given protection against the Mukti Bahinis who would have otherwise skinned the Pakistanis alive.

That was standard procedure and praised by no less than International Commission of Jurists.

Stop trolling. The issue is post independence frustrations, You don't have any clue about it. The likes of you didn't fight for independence to watch that only the label has changed.

You guys are talking about the hardware that the Indians took, did you think of the money that we spent ot libarate you. The years of planning that Indian Army took to arive at a strategy to get your so called freedom. Then it is necessary for the Indian Government to take back what it has spent as surrendered arms and hardware.

That is the reason that we disarmed you. Given the chance your mentality would be to go with war with some one. Disarming you is to prevent chaos, the reason you have better government than Pakistan in resent times is our decesion to disarm you when the war was over.

As Bangladesh was created, it didn't have its own military other than the Mukti Bahini. There was widespread anarchy, looting and rape. No such thing as law & order back then. Ask your parents or grandparents to confirm.

For weapons to be out of the wrong hands, it needs the military to secure and maintain them. Maybe that partly explains Indian Army's decision to seize the M-48 tanks.

If memory serves me correctly, much of military aircraft remained in Bangladesh hands since airport is normally the first place to secure. The F-86 Saber was one of BAF's earliest fighters.

Mujib was in fact very strict about India not interfering in Bangladesh's affairs.

No humanity can exist in much of the early process in the formation of an organized military for Bangladesh. Much of it was filled with ruthlessness and brutality. Many, and I mean many soldiers died in that process. Especially in that Col. Taher case.

Mujib in the end winded up paying with his life.

Who disarmed who??? How much history you knew???

Indian army was not involved in any disarming rather they took away whatever hardware they got from Pakistani Military. It may be ok to secure them at first but should had been returned to the BD army after the new government took office. We had to buy them later from Russia.

Indian army was not involved in disarming muktis. Mukti disarmed voluntarily to the BD army well after Indian army left.

The process of disarming the Mukti Bahini was started by IA. Here is one Time's report:

In Dacca last week, a rally held to seek the release of the imprisoned Bangladesh leader Sheik Mujibur Rahman suddenly became a public execution. Four trussed-up men who had been accused of assaulting Bengali women were brought to a public park near the Dacca Race Course, where the rally was being held. As thousands of spectators cheered, the men were tortured for more than an hour and then bayoneted to death. Other prisoners, particularly razakars, or members of the army-backed East Pakistani militia, have been summarily executed since the war ended. What distinguished the Dacca incident was the fact that Western newsmen were on hand to record the scene and send out photographs despite the determined censorship efforts of Indian authorities.

To deter that kind of visceral revenge all across Bangladesh, Indian troops were doing their diplomatic best last week to disarm the guerrilla Mukti Bahini, who now number about 100,000. The Bengalis' desire for retaliation against their oppressors was intensified by evidence that Pakistani soldiers had committed atrocities even after it was apparent that the war had been lost. In Dacca, Indian troops discovered a mass grave containing the mutilated bodies of 125 of the 400 leading Bengali intellectuals who had been kidnaped in the last days of the war. They had apparently been killed a few hours before the Indians took control of the city. If Bengalis seek revenge for such murders, they may slaughter many of the estimated 1,500,000 Biharis—or non-Bengali Moslems—who now constitute an imperiled minority in the new state.

Mujib had formally asked for surrender of arms on 17th Jan, 1972 and gave 10 days time. It was then that the Mukti Bahinis, primarily the troops of Kader 'Tiger' Siddiqui, voluntarily surrendered.

Right before the surrender, the Pakistanis did a couple of wonderful things. First, they massacred the remainder of intellectuals - they had for some reason allowed to live during those 9 odd months - in an effort to leave Bangladesh leaderless. Second, they sabotaged all the heavy equipments they knew would fall in Indian/BD hands. For example, the F-86 Sabres, that survived the Indian onslaught, were all destroyed.

The process of disarming the Mukti Bahini was started by IA. Here is one Time's report:
You may be right about initiating disarming the Muktis by IA troops, but it took many months to disarm them. There were sporadic fightings between police/miltary and FFs. Nights were hell with continuous or time to time bullet fires. Every one became a strong man in Bangladesh.

Then, there was Tiger Quader Siddiqui of Tangail. Tangail was always free during the nine months of war. IAF paratroopers used his free zone to come down in Tangail. When the war ended, Quader Siddiqui became the de-facto ruler or king of his domain. BD govt of Sk. mujib sent police, and then military to disarm his forces of about 20,000 FFs.

Fighting continued for days without an end. Finally, Sk. Mujib took a risk to his life, and went himself to Tangail. Quader Siddiqui and his forces could not disobey his plea and order. They finally surrendered to his person.

By the way, when Gen. Zia became the ruler of BD, the same Quader Siddiqui again revolted. He was ousted from Tangail and he took shelter in Indian Meghalaya from where he used to terrorize BD with the help of Indian BSF and IA troops. He was elected an MP, but, he could not be elected in the last election. One of his brother is an MP, though.
