China does not seek to be a superpower, only old fashioned people with narrow mindsets dream to be one. China also have allies and can hold its own weight hence no one militarily challenged China already and it is not in China's interest to "dominate" anyone or the region. If we can cooperate peacefully and without puppets barking or yapping on behalf of their master, we would gladly reach out and shake hands.

Most of chinese neighbours in the south east asia consider china as a bully and countries ranging from Japan , S korea , philipines , vietnam , Australia ,malaysia, and other ASEAN countries ... etc etc , Your views of china doesnt look to dominate its neighbours in and around SE asia may not be shared by all those countries !

The problem with Chinese rise is that they link the rise to their ancient empires which comprised of many neighbouring countries and see them as countries that are 'legally' bound to be under the Chinese influence or rule.

A rough analogy would be India linking (hypothetically) its rise to spreading its influence over entire South Asia and South East Asia.

Pretty sure if you asked them if we want to be a super power like the US, then the answer will be a straight forward no. All we care is to be self sufficient and do well for ourselves. We do not and have not in history seeked global domination. If it is a super power's duty to police the world and make enemies globally, that is nothing more than stupidity.

My information was that the Abu Sayyaf group of Islamic terrorists were engaged in active insurgency in south Philippines while the Philli Army is desperately trying to contain them. Ever take a look at the prevailing winds that surround & enter China? Nuking your immediate neighbors would tend to irradiate yourself as well.
