Indian politicians were using China threat as "trick" to avoid domestic problems, win votes and to obtain advanced weaponry from Western countries, a Chinese state-run newspaper claimed today.

"Within India, the so-called China threat is a trick by Indian political figures to fool their people and Western countries," said an article in the web edition of the Global Times, which is controlled by the ruling Communist Party
.

Highlighting the recent "tent confrontations" between the Indian and Chinese armies in the Ladakh region, the article said, "By making waves about China, Indian politicians can avoid domestic problems, bolster up national morale, and raise votes. And on the international level, India can obtain advanced weaponry and technologies from Western countries."

"Currently, Indian policymakers have a relatively clear judgment on Sino-Indian relations and Indian-US ones. India doesn't have the ability to directly confront China yet, and as a country prioritising economic development, India is in need of a peaceful neighbouring environment," it said.
The article appeared on a day when China announced the dates of Premier Li Keqiang's maiden visit to India from May 19 to 21.

About the recent "tent confrontation" in Ladkah area where Chinese troops set up tens, it said: "from an Indian perception, the Chinese army has invaded Indian territory, and this time is the most serious invasion in the past 25 years".

"Some Indian media outlets claim China has invaded Indian territory 600 times in the past three years," it said.
The Sino-Indian border issue is very complicated, and even resulted in war in 1962. That conflict became the excuse for India to bolster the military and develop nuclear weapons.
The root reason for so many "incursions" is that the two sides have not reached a consensus on the Line of Actual Control, let alone a formal border, it said.

However, since 1993, China and India have signed two agreements and one protocol on the maintenance of peace and tranquillity. These efforts have helped ensure durable peace and stability in the region.

"There is a very small possibility that China and India will fall into serious conflict," it said.

Nevertheless, bilateral relations between China and India are very delicate. As well as the boundary problem, China- Pakistan relations, the Dalai Lama issue, and tension over water resources also hinder the promotion of China-India ties.

These problems mean India has a deep-seated distrust of China, the article said. With the US "rebalancing" toward the Asia-Pacific, the Sino-Indian relationship is seeing subtle changes these days, it said.

So far, India has strengthened its "Look East" policy. It has enhanced strategic and security cooperation with countries such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam, and has taken a high-profile in the South China Sea disputes, it said.

In December 2011, the first trilateral dialogue between the US, Japan and India was presided over by the US, and one of the topics discussed was China's growing military and political global position. It's no wonder many think that India may abandon strategic autonomy in order to ally with the US and contain China, it added.

Article is full of delusions. As if advanced weaponry from Western countries are beyond India's reach without Chinese threat? If anything... Indian political class downplayed this Chinese threat rather than overhype the same.

Fairly accurate analysis.

Isn't it ironic how after the bus rape incident which brought Indians on the streets....suddenly border firing incidents with Pakistan took over the headlines....similarly after another brutal rape of a child and the public reaction..... the tempo with the Chinese went up a few decimals..... talk about being the victims of your own propaganda.

only one point in the article is relevent about India.. Which also in different aspect, that our polloticians use china but only very few use the name of china in there talks, thats it. China has no impact on our vote bank no one can get vote by telling people china as threat.
West policy is indias choice because we have some amount of money which we use to buy wepons for our security from hostile countries whic are around us and western companies are in need of such contracts.. Its a mutual benifit scheme for us and western community.. Because companies are severly affected by recent economic crisis.. It have nothing to do with china.
Yes, India and china have border conflicts l, we are having other problems too.. But you know what's best part in it both countries are trying to solve out the differences.. At least trying.. Its good sign and I hope in coming few yeras eveything will be alright.

Don't really know what the truth is. Our hyper active media can blow anything to such proportions that it almost felt like India had gone on a war with China. Won't comment on other things, but the very fact that this news has almost been forgotten after barely two weeks of being in limelight does tell you that something is fishy.

. .
After reading the article, it is actually opposite. Its CCP controlled Chinese media who is fooling people to raise the morale and not the other way around.
1. What makes them think that if our politicians say that China is a threat, they will win the election? What kind of logic is this?
2. Why we need a reason to buy weapons? We can buy whatever we want when ever we want. Let me ask cCP this - Did India ask China to intrude in our territory so that we can "convince" the west to buy some weapons? Is it? How stupid can you get? I just dont understand how to comment on this!!

isn't it ironic.. Every vitually every one brings in such incidences on pdf to support there articles and talk.. With absolutely no relevence.. They make relevence out of them, and that too on their own..
Furthermore, media in India is based on TRP, they post or they write what they wish and what they want, its is relatively free as compared to other countries.
I feep the other thing ironic like why people are so interested in other countries internal affairs, media and manuly other things.. And they don't have a littile insigth of there respective countries and there problem, where everything is in darkeness no body is free to post anything what he feels and media is compleatly banned from posting or writing such articals. Such incidences never comes to surface or known by anybody.. And still people are suffering and nobody knows it.
And at last you should be thankfull to Indian media for posting many articles like this, because then only be you are able to post them on pdf with the source.. As I see maximum of your posts are regarding India and posted or written by Indian authors.

In fact I think the ruling party lost a few votes because of the soft stand they took against china.
