What's new

The North-South Divide

there's some chick i know from Tamil Nadu, she's doing her CFA at the same institution i'm studying at......i was shocked when i spoke to her in Urdu (i tried to hindi-ize it as much as i could) -- she had no bloody idea what on earth i was saying and she seemed to view me with contempt when i asked her how she could not understand hindi.....i got the impression she was anti-north after some of the subsequent comments she made (some which i wont list, simply because i know it will derail the thread)

North and west Indians are more towards business while south and east Indians are more oriented towards scientific, mathematical and technology side.

caste system still prevails in much of the country, from what i hear....your fate is pre-determined by your caste and which family you are born into...it'll determine your occupation, your level of education, economic disposition; even who you get married to and from which water fountain or cup you drink out of

if i were indian i'd focus on getting rid of caste system rather than focusing on regional rivalries and language wars

.
Of lately it can be seen that if there is a good regional leader than that state is taking leaps & bounds in growth. Weather it be Narendra Modi for Gujarat, Nitish Kumar for Bihar, Raman Singh for CG or Sheila Dikshit for Delhi, they are committed to the development of their state, this calls for finding strong regional leaders with a good central government complementing them.

Okay, which parallel century are you living in? Only arranged marriages are determined by castes (that too are going down). Everything else you stated is plain BS. Who could restrict a low caste citizen in India from being educated and gain Jobs, they have close to 50% reservation in every public sector! Did you just quote the stereotype to gain some brownie points. That's just low.

Really immature comment not suiting a senior member with nearly 13,000 posts.

Well we need a government that focuses on northeast India too. We have almost no attention here. Whenever everyone talks about development and jobs, it always goes either to Delhi-NCR region, Mumbai or south Indian cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai etc. Heck! Even Jharkhand, Bihar, Chattisgarh, MP and Odisha get attention because of mineral rich states and maoist terrorism.

What do we get? Everytime NE comes into picture, the only perception people have is:

- Some loony terrorist group (KLF, NSCM, ULFA, NSCN-IM etc)
- Floods or natural disasters
- Tourist spot
- Chinese encroachment.

Other than this, what attention do we get in mainstream media? Nothing. Assam only comes into image because of ULFA lunatics. Manipur and Nagaland also get similar attention (the only difference being Manipur got attention when gas prices rose to INR 1,000 per cylinder during transporters' strike).

If we keep getting negative stereotypes like this by the effed up media, how will anyone want to invest in our region?

You guys need to stop thinking, India = Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore & Hyderabad.

Most fellow Indians including our anti-national politicians have this mentality above.

There are other places also in the country that need development, investment, safety, growth and prosperity.
I concur, see everytime some **** happens there I guess some groups which block the highway in a already limited place of chickens Neck.. last time I heard the blockade went on for 100 days.. The government should announce immediately a infrastructure package, I guess once a very good connectivity to mainland is established, we will see good growth in NE

Dude, you are so wrong.. The incident happened because we have something called as federal structure in place, the state can makle policies for the state independently on many things(not all).. In Tamil Nadu she could not understand you cause the local govt did not have Hindi as a subject in their curriculum.. Do not assume you know without even knowing the root cause <edit> FYI.. Hindi is not the National language, we have many official language but no National Language, so there was never a compulsory language here.. Hindi is the most common.. this is what we call being secular..

On the contrary it is other way round, today if you are lower caste you can easily be an IAS as compared to higher caste, you will get promoted for doing nothing.

has nothing to do with secularism....

but anyways, since i offended a lot of our more sensitive indian lot on this forum let's just leave it at that

I doubt that you will know more about that, but then again lets leave it at that!

revisit your (mis)understanding of the word secular....since you clearly have access to the internet, having access to an online dictionary would be within your reach

Dude, if you think iam wrong please explain...

Tamil Nadu has a good percentage of Christians, even if we do not count that, Tamils though Hindus have so many different traditions and religious sentiments than north indians.. Its like different religions but not radically different..

Also, for me secular also means wordly, i.e not counting religion in what and how I do things no just at the state level.. so if you know something more about India and Indians and think im lost, please make me find the path..

Probably he should have used the word non communal as communal term encompasses regional and linguistic intolerance also. You got the point anyway.

And it is not about sensitive Indian and non sensitive one.Pakistanis are used to talking bullshit regarding caste system without knowing Indian law and ground realities.

.
cool...

oh by the way, where did i even bring up religion.

Man, just leave the subject. You guys are funny, but hopeless. cheers
