The myth about the Great Famine

FOOD SECURITY IN CHINA

Summary

China’s government and people regard food security as one of the most important issues
in economic and social development. Because of the existing population and resource
pressure, increase of living standard, and accelerating urbanization and industrialization,
China is facing a severe challenge in food security. As the largest developing country
with more than 5000 years of history, China’s government has always paid great
attention to food problems. Since its founding in 1949, the People’s Republic of China
has already basically resolved the problem in providing enough food to its people. The
main successful experience is summarized as four aspects: decades of efforts. The main
experience are to adhere to the principle that agriculture is the foundation of the national
economy, giving top priority to agriculture in national economic development; to take
grain production as the key point in rural economic work, making all possible efforts to
ensure a steady increase in total grain output; to successfully carry out rural economic
reform by mobilizing the enthusiasm of farmers for grain production; basic conditions
for agricultural production have been continuously improved; land resources have been
developed and made full use of in a comprehensive way. China has decided to take
basic self-sufficiency and minimum necessary imports as the basic policy for food
security for the foreseeable future. Many measures have been adopted by government to
ensure food security, including the following: policies for protecting cultivated land
have been formulated and implemented, especially for protecting basic farmland with
the strictest farmland management system; the governor grain responsibility system and
mayor vegetable basket responsibility system have been adopted to ensure production
and supplies of grain and other staple foodstuffs; commercial grain bases and vegetable
bases have been taken as the most effective measures for ensuring food security;
expansion of state grain reserve capacity and grain marketing restructuring have been
taken as the main measures for strengthening the government’s ability to control the
national grain market; and a food quarantine system has been set up and implemented to
protect consumer health.

Thank you for your posting. Look at China population structure in 1950. We can say that neither KMT or Japanese are able to kill so many Chinese like CCP.

The wickedness of CCP is unimaginable. CCP has put the face of Chinese into shithole. Those who glorify CCP are either idiots or are as wicked themselves.

These people cheers when seeing so many people get murdered.

Lux is few righteous Chinese here. Whenever Lux say about GLF, I get fxxk by many Chinese.
Calm down ,Singaporean, You have been marked -42 ratings.so....My grandfather was once a KMT and also a landlord, He was too much suffering during Cultural Revolution. To be honest ,i do not like Mao but should follow the objective fact about it ,and i do not defend for who . i'm sorry i have a little feel that you r a bit naive man , you will believe whatever you are looking, it is not true means to see things.

.
Mao personally set quotas on how many 'landlords', 'rightists', 'reactionaries', and 'capitalists running dogs' must be executed per month. No...Am sure he did not set out to kill X amount of Chinese after he gained power. But he was determined to put China under a reign of communist terror in order to subjugate the Chinese people in the fastest and most brutal manner possible to make sure there would be no credible resistance to his rule. In that, he succeeded, but at the cost of tens of millions.
You can believe what you want to believe.

Mao at that time is most revered in China, even internationally. His political status in China is unassailable because he has mass majority support of the people. He do not have to use terror. When Mao make a call to start the Cultural Revolution, millions answered his call.

Even today, Mao is still a political force to be reckon with in China. Millions of Chinese today recognized his contribution. Don't you think the people that have lived through his policy understand him better?

Mao has dedicated his whole life to China. All of the old guards in China politburo are together with China, went through hell and high water from early 20th century onward. Fight for China through tooth and nail. And Chinese people knew very well what they have put on the line and what they had paid. For China.

And you want us to believe that they don't wish to lead a prosperous and strong China?

Mao had delivered a reasonably secure China. The first priority and foundation that China can build on. Step by step China is realizing the Chinese dream. There are mistakes along the way, but life and Mao cannot be perfect.

Noone can deny that tens of millions died in that famine. But to blame it squarely on CCP is not justified either. CCP is not all powerful nature controlling party. Most famines are a result of nature rather than people.

Most chinese i know are against the Cultural revolution and say it was a mistake and even if it had not taken place China would be as prosperous as it is today.

I believe Mao contributed greatly to China especially in unifying such a huge country but I personally believe he is a selfish being. When Deng was successfully bringing an end to famine after great leap and bringing China on track to recovery. Mao shall have step down and admit his mistake. Instead for his personal fame and ego, he started cultural revolution to purge even Liu Shaoqi and Peng dehuai, all those old guard who stood with him thick and thin. Deng Xiaoping is smart to avoid direct clash with him and humbly admit loss to Mao.

If now, China now shall have developed early by 20 years and now we would have been world number 1 in economy and military. with deng development right after the 1959 famine.

The Japanese Imperial army are certain wicked but compared to Mao, they are kindergarten. Mao has broken universe record of murdering people but he should be fondly remembered by many PRC who call him father.

爹亲娘亲不如毛主席亲

Mao has killed more in peace time than Japanese in war time.

Good job Mao. You should kill more so that more people love you and lick up your photo everyday.

No different for you.

Mao at that time is most revered in China,...
For most of the Chinese, he was a remote and removed figure, and the worst -- feared. The Chinese people knew him through his policies and the brutality those policies demanded of their fellow Chinese.

When Mao make a call to start the Cultural Revolution, millions answered his call.
And millions died.

Even today, Mao is still a political force to be reckon with in China. Millions of Chinese today recognized his contribution. Don't you think the people that have lived through his policy understand him better?
Then why not YOU come out of your shell and OPENLY say: 'The ICBMs of today are worth the tens of millions Chinese dead of yesterday.'

Mao has dedicated his whole life to China.
Where else could he dedicate his life ? Certainly not the US.

And you want us to believe that they don't wish to lead a prosperous and strong China?
What make you believe the brutality and bloodshed were necessary ? Do YOU believe what the communists did were the only way ? But that is the pattern of communists all over during the Cold War: violence.

There are mistakes along the way, but life and Mao cannot be perfect.
I would rather lose money at the stock market than because of robbery at gunpoint. The former situation is a genuine mistake, the latter could be a 'mistake' but only by way of mental gymnastics. You guys complained about Imperial Japan but gave a pass to the Chinese communists when in scale, the communists have done much worse.

LOL, I find you are one fucked up malay. Did Mao shit on your congee or something? You seem to be more pissed at Mao than the Chinese who actually lived during his time.

You need to take some vietamin D or get a hooker to release some tension. Maybe you can strangle her.

Chairman Xi's father, Xi Zhongxun 习仲勋 get shit from Red Guard. Long life revolution, Elder Xi is a "running dog, spy, reactonaries"...etc/

Elder Xi pretended to be a crackpot throughout cultural revolution.

Hi Bolo, will someone love Mao if Red Guard put shit in his mouth, or Red Guard rape this person? If this person still love Mao, he may want to get his mind checked for Stockholm syndrome.

He is feared? Many Chinese still hang his portrait at home. Why you guy are so self-righteous and presumed that you understand Chinese? Yes, maybe it seem illogical to you, but you haven't went through what the Chinese people has went through.

And millions died.
The fact is, Chinese people choose him. They choose to trust him.

Then why not YOU come out of your shell and OPENLY say: 'The ICBMs of today are worth the tens of millions Chinese dead of yesterday.'
I did not say that. You are the one that has insinuated that repeatedly. I found that to be you habit of putting words into others month.

Where else could he dedicate his life ? Certainly not the US.
The fact is he did. Whether there are other option available or not is not important.

Neither did I said that the brutality or bloodshed were necessary nor did I say that it is the only way. You are the one that suggest that.

One could have said that the pattern of anti-communist all over during the Cold War are violence too.

One is voluntary and the other is not. Your problem is, you simply refuse to admit the fact that Chinese people willingly choose CCP/Mao.

At the early 20th century, China was in utter chaos. The Qing Dynasty elites' mentality of burying their head in the sand is obviously not working. If we continue like this, we would end up like Ottoman Turk. We need to change. But nobody has a crystal ball, nobody really know the right way forward. The people eventually choose CCP to lead China. And in 1949, PRC was founded. And for the first time, in a long time, Chinese could live in relative peace and held our head high in dignity.

Is it really that hard to understand that the Chinese people really appreciate that fact?

Mao mobilized the Chinese nation. He inspired and the people follow him. They took the leap with him. Yes, we did it. And we did it together.

You want us to second guess our commander in chief. Implying it could have been this, or it could have been that. Analyzing this and that.

We Chinese are doer, not talker. The CCP did not sit on their a$$ and just talk. They went ahead and did what they believe in. We Chinese has a saying, 天道酬勤. Heaven/God/Fortune favor the hardworking. God help those who help themselves.

Deng said 'Crossing the river by feeling the stones', eventually we would get there. Yes, it has been and will be a treacherous journey, but we would not let that stop us.

Great things are afoot, just wait and see.

Chinese people choose Mao is something similar to Korean choose fat Kim. If Chinese know the lies of Mao and CCP, Chinese will give his *** a few kick, unless Chinese are wicked and heartless.

CCP is a stooge of USSR, funded by USSR. CCP commits numerous crime even before ascending. They purge a lot of people. CCP do not fight Japanese.....etc

It is unfortunate that USA got George Washington, Thomas Jefferson while China got Mao.

Well, he is what we got.

Much much better than some brainwashed Christian Uncle Tom. Who when come to international politics in China geopolitical environment then, would likely be sold down the river, and taking China along with it.
