They're known as: 近衛師団 or Konoe Shidan -- Elite Imperial Guard

Emblem:

Their unit is part of the JGSDF branch of the JSDF, tho it has affiliation with Japan National Police, as they have dual role of military and civilian law and order. They're placed in reserve for the protection of the Imperial Family. Its similar to the British King's Guard, where they serve ceremonial purposes, but are deployed for combat duties. Their unit saw action during Operation Ten Goh, and was instrumental to the capture of Singapore in '41 , defeating the British 3rd Corp. In the conquest of the Philippines, the unit helped spearhead the invasion of the Philippines, and saw action against the United States Army there.
