The Kamikazes

The fearless kamikazes!!!
Ostensibly most of the kamikaze pilots were volunteers, and when they died their family received an amount close $120 today, back in those days it must 've been a huge amount.
Similar to kamikaze there were kaitens, which were suicidal torpedoes.

In my opinion, Japanese soldiers come close to Rajputs who put honour before anything else and preferred killing themselves rather than getting captured.

Thanks for the tag. :-)
Our people and your people fought them in Burma and fought as well as them.
Niazi and Manekshaw together.... Both got gallantry awards.anyways, that will be off topic.

The original suicide ritual of Samurai was sekeppu in which, one disembowelled himself to avoid capture or in shame or defeat. This some what changed in WW2.

I suggest watching Clint Eastwood's hit "Letters from Iwo Jima" with english subtitles. Not that much action but one gets the idea of what the final months of the war were like for ordinary Japanese soldiers and for their visionary Maj General.

I have watched it, I am a Ken watanabe fan, absolutely love that actor. I also liked "the last Samurai". :-)
.

Overall the Kamikazi campaign was fruitless since Japan lost a juge amountr of airplanes, many times without achieving their target

i see all this as people wasting their life. :(

why can't people just accept the simple and elegant ideal of pan-human communism and end all wars??

true pan-human communism - when governments have fallen, militaries have disbanded and people rule themselves.

Sometimes the only way to achieve peace is through war....ironical I know.

Yes, that's what I feel too when I hear news about a soldier (Indian, Pakistani or any country) who has made a supreme sacrifice for his country,

true pan-human communism - when governments have fallen, militaries have disbanded and people rule themselves.
I'm not sure that will happen anytime soon. We live in an imperfect world and war is a reality.

yes, and obviously it would be a silly war if both ( or more ) sides fight for nationalism or imperialism than for bringing peace... weren't the two world wars "war to end all wars"??

what you say of this - fighting against internal injustice and dying because of it should be called "supreme sacrifice"... finding a external mirror-nationalist enemy is easier than fighting against one's own countrymen.

how about something like a "spectre" organization inducing hot-headed governments into a big war?? :D

Yes, world war II was fought in 1945 and since then countries have been able to thwart every possible situation which could trigger a world warIII

That's a tricky one...
This is a lol off topic, assuming a supporter of Geelani, the traitor, dies in Kashmir fighting the forces, will you call this a supreme sacrifice???

In case of Kamikazes most of those who were selected for the mission were inexperienced pilots, some as young as 23yrs old. It's unfortunate that were made the scape goats.

es, world war II was fought in 1945 and since then countries have been able to thwart every possible situation which could trigger a world warIII

well, usa military has tried to find every chance of starting another, most recently in syria in mid 2013.

maybe you know this story... during the days of what usa government called "cuban missile crisis", a soviet submarine was patrolling under off-cuban waters or sovereign cuban waters... a usa navy ship happened to detect the sub and dropped depth charges... the sub was carrying nuclear warhead rockets... the sub was damaged a bit i think... it was now upto three people on the sub to decide if they should launch the rockets upon usa - the captain, the first officer and the chief engineer... the last man said "no. we should take evasive measures and ditch the american ship"... this way, world war 3 did not start... the submarine somehow got away to get repaired... we now are able to live in this year because of what that soviet chief engineer did 50 years ago.

That's a tricky one...

no, geelani and his sister-like, asiya andrabi, are reactionaries and like any reactionary should be dealt-with in the same way - removal from society through appropriate means.

yes, the young and zealous die for reasons conjured up by the generals and politicians in the back.

Japanese were really brave soldiers. I wonder how things would have turned out had they not allied themselves with the Germans and also not attacked the US in Pearl Harbor. Maybe today the Japanese land empire would have been intact and they would have no doubt been a military superpower

Initially, it was very successful but in the later stages, the allies adapted and evolved tactics to counter them.
The main reason Japan lost was because of relative lack of resources, manpower and industrial output as compared to US along with outdated tactics of their land forces like banzai charges.

The Japanese had no choice but to attack Pearl Harbor, after the threats from the USA. They where provoked by the US. read: FDR provoked the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and How U.S. Economic Warfare Provoked Japan’s Attack on Pearl Harbor: Newsroom: The Independent Institute
