^^ leasing and maintaining a nuke sub is very costly and challenging.

even if pak decides to lease type 096 and manage to have funds, US may pressurize china to not do so.

since 1947 pak's emphasis is strengthening army and since 50s AF.

i seriously doubt that overlords in Rawalpindi would allocate billion dollars to navy when army and PAF needs funds desperately to keep match for slow but steadily growing strength of IAF and IA.

Pak's response will be AIP subs which can remain underwater over a weak.

problem is in AIP mode offers only enough power to sub for maneuver while for fast speed batteries and diesel power is still needed.

well sorry for wrong place of posting but i also think just one of our subramanian posted his desire to quit the forum because of bias against us, i too am quitting the forum.( till the post is not deleted) it's only goodbye to indian friends, no need for others to reply.

i got a warning as well so you guys know how pathetic it is to be trying to play a level game in a enemy territory

delhi certainly has a level of insecurity for women. gujarat is safest though in this manner. i could compare the situation with pakistan where women have no rights at all . but this is our own problem , and as the economy of india improves we will have lesser and lesser of such problems. as far as few peoples mindset is concerned it will take time but i am sure we will manage .

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

All the best,
Pakistan Defence Forum
i don't see that i insulted someone like the pakis do and get away with it

i hope we all quit and join some impartial forum.

Just to clarify: AIP just allows a sub to "loiter", i.e. manuever at very slow speed (abt. 4kts). This helps to increase the sub's endurance at sea. However (this is important) it neither adds to the "non-detectability" of the sub per se nor does it increase the weaponry/attack capability of the sub. Which is the reason why not every Navy has put all its money into the AIP route. It is not the "ultimate weapon" in a sub's arsenal. And is just a cost-effective feature. In the meanwhile ASW detection/destruction capabilities are steadily being worked on. So the balance in Submarine/ASW warfare is constantly shifting.

^^ i already knew AIP just allows a sub to manuever at very slow speed

anyway thanks

A Glance on Arihant

infrastructure for testing the reactor subsystems was setup at the Machinery Test Centre in Visakhapatnam. Facilities for loading and replacing the fuel cores of the naval reactors in berthed submarines were also established at the Ship Building Centre.[14]

The hulls for this class were built by Larsen and Toubro at their Hazira shipbuilding facility. Tata Power SED built the control systems for the submarine. The steam turbines and associated systems integrated with the PWR were supplied by Walchandnagar Industries.[25]

The lead vessel underwent a long and extensive process of testing after its "launch" in July 2009.[26] Every sub-system of the propulsion and power systems on board the submarine was repeatedly tested with high-pressure steam trials of all pipelines. Finally, the reactor on board INS Arihant went critical in 2011[1] when the zirconium rods in the reactor were gradually removed.[27] This was followed by harbour-acceptance trials that included submersion tests by flooding its ballast tanks and controlled dives to limited depths. The sea-acceptance trials are expected to begin in February 2011.[1] This will include operation at different speeds and different depths, before the final weapons acceptance trials, consisting of test-firing of all her SLBMs and torpedoes.[28][29] Data gathered from her acceptance trials is expected to aid the development of nuclear submarines to follow.[30] INS Arihant is expected to be ready for operational deployment by the end of 2012.[31]

Three more submarines of her class were under construction, as of January 2012.[1]

The Arihant class submarines are reported to be comparable to the Charlie II class submarines, which India leased from the Soviet Union between 1988 and 1991.[32] Their crew will have the opportunity to train on an Akula II class nuclear attack submarine, that the Indian Navy leased from Russia[16] since December 2011.[33]

The submarines have four launch tubes in their hump. They can carry up to 12 750 km K-15 Sagarika missiles with 8 multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRV) each[34] or 4 of the under-development 3500 km range K-4 missiles.[35]

The hull features twin flank-array sonars and Rafael broadband expendable anti-torpedo countermeasures. The UPA government's report card carried an image of the lead vessel, which provided the first public glimpse of the completed submarine.[36]

i do seriously hope that after 3rd SSBN next will be in the 8000 tonne and can be able to carry more number of K4 missiles and we should start building SSN we need them most:pop:

There is a question which is coming to mind again & again. If Arihant class sub is 6000 tons then how it can be double hull. I read someday back that Indian SSGN(converted Arihant class sub) will weight around 6000 tons same as Arihant class SSBN & it will be single hull platform. Can anyone provide some information?

The number of SSBNs and SSNs must be way more than discussed here so far. Three SSBNs can only be the minimum number, since you normaly have one out in service one in reserve, while another one could be taken out of service for repars or maintenance. The SSBN capability is too important for the nuclear triad, that IN will be left with just such a small number.
SSNs on the other side must be procured in even greater nubers, since they normally will be used to escort SSBNs and carriers. With at least 3 aircraft carries in future, we would need again a rotation of 3 SSNs to protect them. Besides, SSNs like the Akula are also hunter subs, operated alone and at long distances to hunt enemy subs as well to gather intelligence. All these roles can't be fulfilled with Diesel - Electric subs, since they don't have the range/endurrance, the speed and the ability to stay submerged for such a long time.

India is going for 22 nuclear submarines over a period of 15 to 25 years what information I have gathered from various sources.

I would like make 1 more point. I read about Indian short range SLBM(Range 700-1000-1900KM depending on size of warhead). It was written there that it is (8 bombs)MIRV platform.

Akula SSN
Displ: 8,140 tons
Length: 110.3 m
Beam: 13.6 m
Draught: 9.7 m

Astute SSN
Displ: 7,000 tonnes, surfaced
7,400 tonnes, dived
Length: 97 m
Beam: 11.3 m
Draught: 10 m

Arihant
Displt: 6,000 tons
Length: 112 m
Beam: 15 m
Draft: 10 m

Don't you think the displacement of Arihant is under reported ???

Moreover never read about a double hull for arihant ............

As newer gen subs come in market, they more compact. Just check French,US SSN,you will be surprised to know about their weight.

1 more thing AKULA weight is on the surface while submerged it crosses 11000ton barrier I guess. While Astute submerged is around 7500Tons submerged. Arihant is only 6000 ton. & don't forget it's 1st indigenous nuke sub.

Submerged akula's displacement exceeds 12500 tons....

Isn't displacement directly related to diamensions of submarine ???

If you look at the data , arihant has larger diamensions than other two ....still even the surfaced displacement is less..

Something fishy ........
