What's new

The IAF is in the process of inducting additional Su-30MKI aircraft manufactured underlicence by HAL

. . .
. . .
272+ 40.

+ these MKIs are NOT for the SFC, the MKI is not a long range strike fighter, it is a multi-role air dominance/superiority fighter, nuclear missions are much more the Rafale's bread and butter.
As far as I remember the original number is for 270 and additional 2 were for replacements to lost aircrafts. and Super sukhui is still on paper as IAF were not impressed with Aesa on offer. Pl confirm.

And also I read somewhere the Super varient will cost more than 100 million$ a piece. So IAF were not impressed with the cost as well.

The original number was 270 with the latest batch of 42 being inducted right now, the IAF is now looking for a further batch beyond 272 figure.

The Super upgrade will happen in the coming years, HAL has already made all the preparations.

So did they finalize on the radar? I mean this is where IAF found it not good/ not fully developed.
As per Prasunda MKI is suitable for terrien hugging and therefore not very suitable for long range strike.

our current mkis too cost around 100 mil after adding israeli goodies

Aiyyan beautiful

Oh,she's not bad:kiss3:

So did they finalize on the rada

The options are limited.

1)Either the pakfa aesa which is unlikely given its humongous power requirement and a custom made processor
2)A custom made radar for mki by Niip ,for which again has been no signs about
3)Most likely scenario is the zhuk-ae radar or fga 30 radar developed for mig-35.

Thats why its much better to order initial batches of pakfa than additional mki's.
Guess what,we will never learn.

the problem is the delay in our 5th gen program... the fgfa prototype for iaf has not been arrived.. I tink it would come only by 2018 and the induction would start from 2022. what should we do to take care of the current requirements ??? IAF is Shrinking every month with retiring fighters and crashes. For me the best option would be order some more MKIs and sign the Rafale deal soon as our Medium category fighter's count is going down, mig 21's will be replaced with lca and that's not a big concern since their role will be only intercepting mostly, MMRCA is much needed.

Why and how will it arrive??
We ourselves haven't signed the pakfa deal yet,,who is to blame for that??

Russians?

But yeah u are right, the squadron strength is falling.

Prototype is noting to do with the deal... the signing of the deal is for the no of requirements... PKAFA is a joint coloration of Russia and India, as already agreed we should get a prototype of fgfa(IAF customized) but the russkies was delaying... remember guys from our side was complaining that Russians were not cooperating and not letting us to share the tech as it was agreed. also in between IAF had a mixed feeling whether to go with single seat or double, then with the cost over running the no were reduced and so...
