Negotiating teams of India and France constituted to finalise the terms and conditions procurement of 36 Rafale fighters have commenced the talks, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Rajya Sabha today.

“Government of India would like to acquire 36 Rafale jets in fly-away condition as quickly as possible,” Mr Parrikar said in a written reply.

India’s decision to buy the aircraft off the shelf was conveyed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the French President Franois Hollande during his visit to France in April this year as the protracted contract negotiation talks under the original deal for procuring 126 fighters had failed to reach its logical conclusion.

“The two leaders agreed to conclude an Inter-Governmental Agreement for supply of the aircraft on terms that would be better than conveyed by Dassault Aviation as part of a separate process underway, the delivery would be in time-frame that would be compatible with the operational requirement of IAF; and that the aircraft and associated systems and weapons would be delivered on the same configuration as had been tested and approved by Indian Air Force, and with a longer maintenance responsibility by France,” said the Defence Minister.

Talking about the requirement of fighter aircraft in IAF, he said this is periodically reviewed to ensure that the operational requirements of the Indian Air Force (IAF) are met.

“The IAF is in the process of inducting additional Su-30 MKI aircraft manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), which is manufactured indigenously by HAL,” he said, adding that these inductions would augment the operational strength of the IAF.

The production capacity of HAL for flankers at 15 per year is too low. If it's not increased upto at least 18 from next year, additional flankers will not arrive early.

. . .
Is it( 232+40nuke)+ or( 272+40) + .
Can someone confirm

.
We should induct more MKIs to increase the number of war ready aircrafts. 272+126 must be a formidable number considering the fact that the air force is struggling with lesser squadron number. This should act a a stop gap measure and relieve already strained airforce.

Too many heavy twin engines. They are not maintenance friendly. No country even usa has such large % of twins in their inventory

. .
Original order was for 272 aircrafts.
42 Aircrafts are in consideration for SFC.
And most probably this new is about addition ones.( means excluding the above two.)

you mean to say 272 for IAF and separate 42mkis for sfc right??.... acc to wiki SFC needs 40 mkis and they're already being inducted

I think we get additional sukois in Super standard. Or we will add additional less than 80 -60 and another batch of 36 from rafale. As if India ordered another 36 now itself thrn the opposition party will use it as weapon of election for not making it in India as proposed by Cong. So i guess in next 2 years india will place siting urgency of IAF so the blame will stay with Congress. I guess it eill come true.

Iaf should for additional sukois in super standard

.
No. Till now only 220 mkis have been produced and about 200 have been inducted. And according to HAL, it will take them 2019 from present rate of production to build the first 272 aircrafts. No chance of inducting 40 for SFC now.

Agreed. But instead of inducting new platforms, which will be a nightmare, we must focus on a plane which we already have production lines. Now I am strictly speaking this as a stop gap measure until Tejas Mark-2 is ready.
