The Haunting Memories of the PAK-1 Crash

whoever killed Zia , has my gratitude .. but i would suggest to target that asshole alone instead of bringing down the whole C-130 ..

FMEA never showed fatigue as the cause. I saw the FTA. It was something else. Some lessons are painful.

I heard it from a coursemates of one of the pilots....possibly could be wrong. The hydraulic lines had burst.

No conspiracy there.
Mushaf's plane also crashed with high ranking officials yet we don't hear any conspiracy theories on that.

Despite his mistakes, I have great respect for the man.

dhamaka sa faza ma " paat " gaya .. Well, his death was predicated, when he said in last speech before crash, that he will announce himself " ameer ul momineen" of Pakistan . Means for life ruler.

After work was done by zia clearing bhutto big threat to israel existance

Zia was given in return 13 years gift of luxury life than when world was blaming US for its duplicity of supporting democracy at one side and dictator at other it has to do somethong to keep a tag of champion of democracy

. .
No it wasn't. The hydraulics in the tail failed due to fatigue...which led to failure in the elevator linkages to the reversible flight control system. The elevator pushed down due to gravity which caused the aircraft to pitch down into a nose dive and crash.

The conspiracy theories sell better due to high ranking officials and a head of state on board the aircraft. Had it been regular officers or cargo...nobody would've given care so much as news won't be able to sell that much.

I've seen similar crash on Discovery channel "air crash investigation", where a civilian airliner did a similar roller coaster flight before it crashed. But this doesn't rule out that this wasn't sabotage.

Agreed....and I believe you mean could've been sabotage. So far no concrete evidence stating it was sabotage.

Pitch attitude relay failure due to damage [not fatigue] to elevators. Reason of damage, i do'nt know.
VIP pod disconnected and ramming around free in the hold- severe CG issues could be compounded if the pod caused damage to control lines during movement.

Yes there are conspiracies on that. Look them up...
Sudden violent pitchups and loss of controllability would have pilots overwhelmed and in shock(added pressure of being PAK-1) to simply overlook mayday in their attempts to regain control.

There were reportedly six other aircraft in the air at the same time as PAK-1.

I remember a post by a member on a sister forum mentioning 2 PAF officers each having received 5 million dollars to do Zia in. He was becoming a thorn in the side of the US as he knew far too many secrets and could ask the difficult question of" whats in it for my country and for me?" So he was also becoming too expensive to maintain. The post was deleted within 24 hours and I later came to know the person as an Ex PAF person who was son of another PAF high up.
There is in my view sabotage written all over the event but will not be proven ever as people do not want to reopen the investigations as the implications cannot be handled. Zia's life was threatened and he had gone into self imposed exile for the last 6 weeks. A lot of persuasion was involved in getting him out of the Army house. He tried his best by taking along US personnel with him to avoid sabotage but it happenned. How will remain a mystery.

Gen Zia’s Plane Crash – role of Maj Gen Mahmud Durrani

Now, the crucial question, that President Ziaul Haq didn’t want to go to Bahawalpur, but Maj.Gen. Durrani had urged him with persistent calls to change his mind. His interview records: “There is no doubt, Durrani said, he talked to the president on August14, 15 and 16 to discuss the visit. ‘But, I never invited the army chief as had been alleged, and I was not the one who had decided that he should witness the trial demonstration.'”

But, knowledgeable and authentic sources tell a different story. American journalist Edward Epstein’s article, The Mysterious Crash that Killed Zia, which appeared first in Vanity Fair, and later in the Nation, 14 May 1989, begins with this very point. “General Zia had reluctantly agreed to fly down to Bahawalpur. Major General Mahmud Durrani, the commander of the armored division and his former military secretary, was extraordinarily insistent in his phone calls (that Zia must come to see the tank demonstration)… [Then] General Zia’s eldest son, Ejazul Haq, described to me how his father had been manipulated into going on the plane.”

Takbeer, 20 August 1992, gave specific details on this matter. “At 11:30 pm on the night of 16 August 1988, the GOC 2 Armored Division, Major General Durrani, telephoned President General Ziaul Haq at the Army House in Rawalpindi. Durrani requested the president to confirm he would be coming to Bahawalpur for the tank demonstration. Zia received numerous calls from Durrani in this respect. Now he had finally decided to go, and gave the confirmation to Durrani. Immediately after the call, however, General Zia commented to his family members: ‘Why is Durrani insisting so strongly that I should come to Bahawalpur; does he not know my moods?'”

I sometimes wonder that an army general like zia could have had a parachute with him to jump off the plane when it was in trouble of falling from the sky.

Infact, this should be an SOP in case flights are containing high profile dignitaries

I see a bigger reason. He was determined to develop Pakistan's nuclear weapons. His death may have been a conspiracy to sabotage the nuclear programme.

No. That goose was already cooked. Once a step is taken and the aim achieved, there is no sense in killing the sentinal. however, since we do not know what happened it will all be conjecture.
