Houston is the most diverse and cosmopolitan of all Texas cities, even more so than Austin, which is an 'educated' city.
Number of racist hicks is low in Houston (lot of Pakistanis there for many generations).
Hicks actually control the city of Dallas since they have oil money. There was a TV drama in the eighties on it. Dallas has a lot of anti-Muslim evangelical Christians too but some of them like that Muslims are conservatives.
@Avicenna bhai lives there, he might know better.
You might hate living in NY Long Island or California because of high living costs (property prices) but your higher income usually matches the property prices. And your disposable income left after paying taxes will be higher too, especially in Northern California where salaries are twice that of Southern California, especially in the tech sector.
In some areas of Southern California (inland empire) property prices are no higher than in Texas, and you can raise your kids in a less racist environment if you have a family. And your salary will be higher than in Texas.
Funny thing is,
California prices for food/produce such as aloo, bengan and gajjar (in fact any produce) is actually cheaper than Bangladesh and Pakistan. And much higher quality.
There are many, many mosques in California and Muslims have more freedom I believe to practice their religion along with anyone else, compared to other places in the US. Of course pockets of racism will exist everywhere. Sometimes I have seen 5000 people attend very large Eid congregations in some Southern California locations.
