What's new

The Great Persian Famine of 1917-1919 that killed an estimated 10 million Iranians (over 50% of the

+100 M Europeans got killed in WW1 and WW2 but nowdays they are living with semi high standars in Europe.

The number of Iranians casualties in famine during 1917-1919 is made by Ahmadinutjobs during Ahmadinejad's presidency. The correct number tends to be 2 million. Meanwhile 95% of Iranians do not know anything about this 2 years famine at all. Irony.

Is it very high compared to 100 Million died Europeans?

Btw who is the miss in ur avatar?

Iran was indeed very modern. God damn these 38 years old sanctions.

Not at all and you know very well that I was the first to "invent" or actively use those 100 million European casualties during WW1 and WW2 here when I discussed with Western users who were quick to brand Arabs, Iranians, Turks and other inhabitants of the Middle East as bloodthirsty people who have always bene at war. The truth however is that the Middle East has been much more peaceful historically speaking than nearby Europe.

The last Shah of Iran tried to develop Iran rapidly after the discovery of oil and gas and also succeeded in Tehran and a few other places but from what I know from Iranians and have read about the countryside remained neglected.

I am sure that @AmirPatriot can confirm.

Anyway let us hope that KSA/GCC/Arab world and Iran will improve its relations but especially neighbors like KSA/GCC and Iran so we can work together economically for the betterment of both people and the region.

discussion with an obsessive individual of Pakistani origin on PDF. But does that mean that I have any problem with his people (Pashtuns)? Obviously no.
That would be me :agree:

That would be because I started this thread about the cradle of oil.

Term to describe unintended consequence of a action. Apologies to my Iranian friends. I think this thread was the 'blowback' for my earlier thread about KSA. I am the culprit here.

She looks good. thanks for the info...

Btw it seems Indians + Bengalis have had the worst famines during history, by British empire. I just read the source below for the first time; truthfully it's unbelievable:

You are a bit obsessed are you not? For a man in his 50's you seem more interested in the affairs of Arabs than what this forum is about, Pakistan. At times this seems so.

Blowback of what? The nonsense was successfully countered in that thread and even your compatriots thanked an foreigners (my) post. That should say a lot.

If I wanted a "blowback" I could have created a thread about the current day state of Afghanistan and Pashtun inhabited areas of Pakistan. I would not need to go 100 years back and nitpick a bunch of Afro-Arabs who have no relationship to the actual Bani Yam tribe whose members I posted in that same thread.

Let alone 100 years ago.

This thread originates from an interesting discussion that I had with an sane Iranian user not long ago. About British foreign policies in the region.

She looks good. thanks for the info...

And modern-day Bangladeshis. Yes, imperial powers, especially Europeans, were brutal back then. The leadership in those countries hardly considered non-Europeans as humans. You just have to read about how they treated the Irish next door whom they are closely related to.

So no wonder that they would be able to commit such crimes elsewhere far away from the homeland.

Humans are a messy species that is for sure.

From what I know, in 1907, three questions were resolved in Anglo-Russian Convention. Tibet, Afghanistan and Persia. Northern Iran was supposed to be sphere of influence of Russia and Southern part was under sphere of influence of British while central part was left to the local ruling family. Persian political and ruling elite were never consulted and they even resented this. Point is British couldn't have done this famine since it was decided they won't interfere in Northern part of Iran.

Please can you point out one area in present day Pakistan mentioned in your link, I can't find any.

I mean polarization in terms of worldview and political beliefs. I have witnessed that in a lot of Iranians. You might not be familiar with this but many Iranian migrants in the West are very anti-Islam. They usually act as representatives of Iranians in the West but in reality they are greatly outnumbered by the average, mostly conservative (compared to the average Westerner at least) Iranian diaspora. For instance I am sometimes participating on Reddit and there is a forum for Arabs and we often interact with foreigners, including Iranians. Iranians too have their own two forums and one is pro-regime (very much so) and the other is extremely anti-regime. What I mean by this is that it is rare to see such fundamentally opposing views in many Arab societies.

Mind you most of those, I assume, are diaspora Iranians not even living in Iran.

I hear that from many Iranians but at the same time Iranians take pride in their history which was always monarchial. So there is a bit of paradox here IMO.

Yep I know only 2 Iranians here that are pro IRI. Every single other Iranian I've met in my life outside Iran was anti IRI. Mostly they are Shahis. That many take pride in history is not that paradox I think. As I said many are Shahis (at least this is my experience, of course this depends on the social milieu etc. , I mean with who you meet etc.) so in general they prefered the Shah over the current Iranian leadership. Their arguments are that Shah modernized Iran and wanted to make Iran to become a country being years ahead of Europe etc. pp.. I think there is truth to some extend but you cannot also deny that most of Iranians were not happy with Shah, so I cannot really understand people who say Shah was the better option.

For me again I am completly neutral. I wish for everybody on this planet to enjoy the poltical system, solidarity and living standards we have in germany, sooooo :D

Ok. I edited.
Famine in South Asia is a Indian/Bangladeshi speciality. We are poor but we scrape enough to grab a meal, cover our bodies and stack a shelter. No fancy, no frills but no starvation either. If it comes to that we much prefer dieing fighting like men then starve and the British knew this that is why either they recruited us as mercenaries/soldiers or we fought them to standstill.

Ok. Edited.

Not sure about Pakistan but famines were common in Afghanistan until very recently. Some Afghans based in KSA that I talked with confirmed this (he escaped during the Taliban rule) and so will a quick Google search.

So to think that no famines existed in such places 100-200-300 years back is a bit optimistic, I would say. Especially in places such as land-locked Afghanistan with barely any farmlands available and harsh winters and summers.

So how does the Iranian and Arab (mostly Syrians nowadays and recently) community interact? Have you interacted with some of the Syrian refugees and if so have you discussed politics? Probably not.

I am sad to say this but some of the conflicts "back home" have been transferred to the West by some representatives (usually the second generation). Thankfully they are a tiny minority for now and stick to the occasional insult or beating here and there but we should hope that it would stick to that alone.

Yesterday I saw a really dirty scene between two Iraqis in an shop. The insults that they were giving each other. Thankfully it was in Arabic, lol.

Anyway as I wrote yesterday, for all I care, every single ruler and ruling family, expect for the Hashemites in Jordan (personal reason), can perish tomorrow. We need a fresh star.

"Years ahead of Europe" is quite optimistic is it not? If he really could do such a thing I would want him to resurface and give him another chance.

Do you like Merkel? I only know little about German politics but I know that you guys have Bundesland (Provinces) with your own laws. I have visited Germany many times. It's a nice country especially the South (Bavaria in particular).

One word. Oktoberfest.

Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Nicht viel, lol.

Afghanistan in 1950's

.

2800, is that not solely the capital and a few selected spots? You won't convince me of this being representative of Afghanistan in the 1950's which probably back then was 90% rural if not more. In fact I can post similar photos of women without headscarfs from almost every single Arab and Muslim country during that era.

But sure I do not doubt that Afghanistan would be better off had the monarchy still existed and had tribalism not killed that country. But they have time to bounce back. Who knows what the story will be in say 10.000 years from now?

. .
@2800

Shall I be brutally honest with you? Progress has nothing to do with the amount of hair or legs or cleavage that a woman shows. I much rather prefer highly educated but modest girls. We do not need to "please" the West by adopting Western moral standards. We have our own religion and even without that religion (Islam) we have our own indigenous cultures who are not the same as Western culture and moral views.

If I was an Iranian I would be 100 times more proud of an "Hijabi girl" who finished a university degree in engineering or medicine rather than an supposedly "open-minded" woman of no significant achievements who likes to show off on social media with a ton of make up, colored blond hair, revealing clothes etc.

Sure as a man it is occasionally nice to look at, I won't lie, but is that really what we should strive towards as societies? Europeans can afford to discuss irrelevant matters because they have already achieved most of what they need or want to achieve. That luxury we do not have.

Therefore I value educational achievements much more than something superficial such as look.
My friend I'm in bed right now. I will answer you tomorrow. (just check Tehran's time).

Btw if sovereign countries be strong, foreign countries like Russia, Britain and USA can't harm them.

Plus trusting imperial countries is not good. We must look at Saddam destiny.
