Which is also a list of countries where life quality is good etc etc etc, always the same countries in lists that really matter, innovation, healthcare etc. So many countries with huge potential who never really pull their weight, they just wait for someone else to make a move and then they steal it.

We are trying to move up the supply chain, but our current phase of economic development will not be complete until around 2025.

China's position needs to improve significantly from the current position of 29. Which is not bad, considering we are a developing country, but we need to do better.

Such a ranking is so fucked up usually due to its bias.

the ranking must be normalised in one way or anther with averge income level / R&D funding per cap to be more comparable, because funding is a key factor of innovation.

the same person, give him $10 or give him $1,000 funding, would have "different" innovation levels, somtimes drastic.

ranking like this thus only perhaps shows a self-fullfiling partial result, but doesn't show the reason why so and more importantly the potential ceiling of each.

i've been to Malta several times. its only industry is a group of tourists , waiters, chefs, and a basic military base...you know

One hour fast jogging you can pretty much cover the entire place.

One of the biggest industrial giants of Malta is called , or was called cuz it was long ago, "China House" Chinese restaurant, with the chef coming from Beijing originally and he roasted fine ducks - perhaps that's why Malta is so innovative, even higher than China, in the ranking.
