The future of Russian weaponry

@chogy
agree with you
if theirs any country which has kept US on its toes was USSR.
ofcource then their economy couldnt support the bright minds it had.
well now with all the investments coming in to russia, its again reinventing itself in this field and goes without saying they dont need much time.
b/w realy proud that india is part of both pak-fa and brahmos mk2
India should make sure there should not be any Shortage of funds in developing war crafts with russia, and i m sure the best things come out...
We should put all our experience,Money, tech, commerce and make sure our partner rises again...

For decades Soviet/Russian weaponry had evolved based upon their tactical and strategic thought, which in itself was a mirror of the Soviet State system... rigid control, top-down decision-making, and lack of initiative on lower levels. Without appropriate rank, junior officers, NCO's, and below were afraid to make any decision, because if it was the wrong one, then some "very bad" things might happen.

This mentality produced the ground-controlled interceptor like the MiG-23 that was incapable of much independent operation... tank brigades and such that would fall into shambles without rigid C & C. Artillery lacking effective independent operation, relying instead on targeting relayed from higher up.

But all of this has changed in the last 15 years. Russian designers have been given more of a free reign to design based upon the presumption that the user would be allowed to show initiative, and act independently. The result has been weaponry that can be employed in a much more flexible manner, and along with that, the tactical mindset to make optimum use of them.

Hardware quality has taken a huge leap in these years. In aviation, it started with the Su-27. SAMs and A2A missiles, likewise have been greatly improved.

Su-27 is 30 years old. Russian SAMs always were good (SAM-6, Shilka are trully masterpieces).

a one line answer is 'bleak' because this century belongs to China ... and weapons are no exception.

Why comment on matters you have no knowledge of? Russia has created a number of new weapons platforms, equally as important is that Russia has improved weapons systems and is working on countless furure projects such as pak-fa, skat, S-500 and so on.

. . .
S-400 is far more advanced than PAC-3 or any other air defense...it has been accepted by the US

. .
and now there is S-500, any news about 300 km range A2A missile partnered with India for production? didn't hear about it later on.

.
The F 22 program started in the 80's and the PAK-FA is only now in development, technology and stealth has changed much since then.

I dont know where from you got this idea. Anyway, the new missiles of S-400 (9M96E2 and 40N6E) are not operational yet. It is still using missiles of S-300.
