The salary of an ordinary MNA of this poor country is:

Salaries, Perks, Privileges (per month) Amount PKR
Salary 200,000
Transport Allowance 50,000
Office Maintenance Allowance 100,000
Constituency Allowance 70,000
Utility Allowance 50,000
Travel vouchers (annual=300K ... monthly = 25K) 25,000

TOTAL MONTHLY 495,000

This salary is equivalent to the maximum salary of BPS-22 (a government officer selected via CSS gets this amount after nearly 25 years of service in Federal government).

And what kind of democracy do you need ? The musharraf one ? Oh yeah there was great prosperity back then.
Perhaps the democracy that the great Pakistani ideologue Muhammad Asad, the director of the (now non existent) Dept of Islamic reconstruction, wanted?

Not the democracy that another great coterminous Pakistani ideologue Allama Iqbal has eloquently exposed when he writes...

Unfortunately what Pakistan (and many countries including in the Western world) has is the latter and not the former...

Authoritarian rule was better for Pakistan in the short run. The numbers back it up. Hell even Zia was better than any civilian regime when you factor in the metrics like GDP growth, poverty etc

The numbers might hold up only for Ayub and that too only for the first couple years (and that too based on numbers that have supposedly been tampered). Nothing good every came out of Musharraf or Zia , and let's not even start on that retard Yahya.

If i compare this with UK then average monthly salary of MP after tax is aproximately : 727,320 Pakistani Rupees

MPs here can also claim expenses for accommodation ,staff costs, travel expenses and the cost of running an office

Pakistani MNs just dont rely on salary and they make double/triple money with corruption and commission thats why they live more luxurious life than a politician in UK

What is the salary of senior army ranks in Pakistan? I am sure they would also be taking more than anywhere else

Pakistan will prosper more without them. we dont need western democracy.

You are correct, but it’s too late because Pakistan has lost the authority of policy making due to IMF, Pakistan is democratic just in papers

Democracy is a mixed beast really. Indonesia's democracy has worked out for it so far, but then again Indonesia managed relatively well under a nationalistic dictator as well.

People advocating a Western style democracy often ignore just how much... maintenance & upkeep such a system needs. The West was lucky they basically had the privilege of multiple colonies to continually rape and plunder while they were establishing the institutions, education, and culture needed to sustain it.

Even then, democracy just wins by ensuring relative stability, the checks and balances make sure that no one person can't change the system too much or too quickly and ensures continual legitimacy of succession of leadership (via popular vote). As Brexit and Donald Trump show though, democracy is far from immunity from stupidity.
