The French Fighter Jet That Nobody Wants

Rafale C: €64 million, US$82.3 million (flyaway cost, 2008)
Rafale M: €70 million, US$90.5 million (flyaway cost, 2008)

Gripen US$40–61 million (export price VAT excluded)

The Brazilian air force seems to be interested in the Gripens since they are easier to maintain and cheaper to operate tha the French Rafales. The Brazilian government though especially president Mr. Lula wants to have Rafale in and hence there is a disagreement between the air force and the central government.

I think that the French made a huge mistake by not joining the Eurofighter consortium. Not only would it have made unit price lower for the Typhoon, it could have earned France some joint profits.

well my money is on gripen first it cost less second easy to maintain 3 it will complement tejas 4 full tot
I dont think india will go for Rafale...and if india went for some other jet...it might be death to french rafale....EF2000 has more chance then gripen..

Rafale will never be able to accomplish the roles that it's predecessors so successfully fulfilled....the Dassault Mirage III/V/IV, Mirage F-1 and Mirage 2000 series.

Rafale is too expensive as a replacement, while Countries that had earlier purchased the Mirage and similar aircraft are now producing JF-17s or intend to.

Cost is going to kill Rafale, and if India gives Dassault the contract, expect it to be the last one.

Turkey and Israel are going for F-35...

Pakistan is going Chinese...

India is going with Russian and maybe EFs.....

Saudis threw Billions of $ on EFs and F-15s...

Egypt, Syria and other nations intend on buying JF-17s or other cost effective aircraft...
Rafale is being left alone....don't know if other smaller European nations will pick it.

.
Weapon sales are more about politics than technical data. I like Rafale more than EF2000.

Its such a badass plane, I hope India goes for it!

PAF evaluated the Rafale, the decision was to go for an upgraded FC20. According to PAF pilots the FC20 had more potential, was much more cheaper and could be designed according to PAF's requirements.

First of all the plane is too expensive, second its here a little bit too late like the Eurofighter. But i think the most important factor that has led to Rafale's failure has been French arrogance in marketing, they need to learn the ABC's of marketing.

The French were never interested in their customers and now they are going to pay a price for their arrogance. Dassault's marketing teams should have been in Pakistan, Australia, Switzerland or any other countries that were were operating the Mirages. But the French due to their arrogance didn't bother doing any of that, this is why they are yet to sell a plane abroad.

Gone are the days when the French or other European nations could design their own planes and build all of its sub systems. In the future i see China, Russia and the US being able to manufacture their own planes and their subsystems. The Europeans made a huge mistake of putting a military embargo on the Chinese, while the Americans sold arms to other countries for billions of dollars, all the Europeans could do was watch :D. This embargo pissed off the Chinese whom doubled the effort of improving their indigenous military industry, the results of that are in front of us today.

Going by the technical specs , Rafale falls behind Typhoon in many areas .... but again EF is the costlier jet of the two.

Rafale and F 18 seem to be the front-runners in the IAF MMRCA contest. But I seriously pitch for the Rafale. This might give commonality of parts for the engine in the later part. But right now the F 414 selected by the IAF is also seen selected by the USN to re-engine their F 18s.

God it is a tough decision.

Typhoon right now is an air superiority fighter with secondary ground attack capability. Rafale is a true MRCA. Only Tranche 3 will decide it.

The French have lost deals due to their EGO and the poor way of handling the customers , the day when there were only few suppliers of fighter aircrafts and France was one of them are now over ,there is lot more competition in the market now .

French has always been poor when it comes to the Seller-Buyer relationship, they always focused on $$ rather then building customer-oriented and convineince -oriented relationship, now they have to harvest what they once planted .

France tried to lobby Brazil for Rafale and were successful to some extent but as soon as the new government came the tender was re-opened .

Rafale is going to be a big failure ,its last hope will be India but there are fewer chances of Rafale
