DCNS lance la construction de la première Gowind égyptienne | Mer et Marine

DCNS says :

"The launch of the construction of the first Egyptian corvette is a very important moment for DCNS. First, we seal a global partnership with Egypt, which will also take delivery of a frigate FREMM type. We are with this new customer in a long-term approach, with training and technology transfer. Then, the contract is part of our growth strategy internationally, which is vital for the development of DCNS. The sale of Gowind Egypt is our second export success for this new generation of corvettes, also used by Malaysia, and this will be the first built in France.

Egyptian crew of former Normandy training :

In addition Gowind, Cairo has bought a multi-mission frigate (FREMM) and, given the desire of Egypt to have this unit this summer, it was decided in February to transfer to Normandy, which was to be delivered to the French Navy.Along 142 meters for a displacement of 6,000 tons in charge, the building is currently in Lorient to be put to Egyptian standards, particularly in electronics and communications. Launchers Sylver A70 (designed for cruise missiles) that equipped in the French Normandy configuration were also landed, the frigate leaving only two Sylver A43 launchers for the implementation of Aster 16 surface-to-air missiles 15. If wishes, Egypt may later double the staffing Aster recovering the space of Sylver A70.

The rest of the large equipment remains unchanged, including Exocet MM40 8, a 76mm turret, two 20mm guns, torpedo tubes, a UMS 4110 hull sonar and towed sonar CAPTAS 4 and a Herakles multifunction radar . One hundred Egyptian sailors joined Lorient to form, with classroom lectures and simulator before taking charge of their future frigate ashore and at sea. The objective is a supply of Egyptian FREMM in the summer for participation in the ceremony marking the end of the widening of the Suez Canal.

The sea you have you need much bigger Navy

i think we will never get or own more than 10 frigates your number is way too overrated we won't need 24 frigate by any means , but yes we need more submarines as the romeo will be out and there will be only 4 new Type 209 , plus we don't have a lot of threats from the sea even israel navy lacks in everything except only submarines

If Egypt need so many with the sea she has then what about Pakistan?

I have to agree with u on that point we need at least two navies one in the red sea and one in the Mediterranean Sea. navies that are capable of operating independently

still no need for such big number of frigates like 24 as he said plus the red sea isn't that big to need an independent navy force but it would be a great idea to discuss though

24 is a crazy number I don't think we are gonna have 24 frigates in the near future I also think the egyptian navy prefers small well equipped/armed vessels over big ones
but really you can't be 100% sure with Sisi
I think the saudis have a navy for the red sea I didn't mean navies with equal power.

it's not about sisi we cant afford neither the price of more than 15 frigates nor their running costs :D , and yes our navy prefers the corvettes especially if it is well equipped like that Gowind 2500

That's an insane number. Egypt doesn't even have a sea based threat. Besides EN prefers Fast Attack Crafts based on their past experience so that number is out of question.

I stand by my number you need this number 24 should be divided like 18 Frigates and 6 Cruise missile destroyers and 8 to 10 Submarines In africa you and Algeria and Morroco should have much bigger Navies than what they currently have but Algeria is on right track @Ceylal

and we are on the right track too

getting 1 fremm frigate + 4 gowind corvettes + 4 type 209 and all of them will enter the service before 2019 and first the fremm will enter june i think this is a great progress

I agree with you, but to built a navy of that magnitude, with teeth, takes time. Algeria is using the time frame to built a unit to train their crew, and it wasn't particularly easy since new technologies demand a highly skilled recruits.
