DCNS lance la construction de la première Gowind égyptienne | Mer et Marine
DCNS says :
"The launch of the construction of the first Egyptian corvette is a very important moment for DCNS. First, we seal a global partnership with Egypt, which will also take delivery of a frigate FREMM type. We are with this new customer in a long-term approach, with training and technology transfer. Then, the contract is part of our growth strategy internationally, which is vital for the development of DCNS. The sale of Gowind Egypt is our second export success for this new generation of corvettes, also used by Malaysia, and this will be the first built in France.
Egyptian crew of former Normandy training :
In addition Gowind, Cairo has bought a multi-mission frigate (FREMM) and, given the desire of Egypt to have this unit this summer, it was decided in February to transfer to Normandy, which was to be delivered to the French Navy.Along 142 meters for a displacement of 6,000 tons in charge, the building is currently in Lorient to be put to Egyptian standards, particularly in electronics and communications. Launchers Sylver A70 (designed for cruise missiles) that equipped in the French Normandy configuration were also landed, the frigate leaving only two Sylver A43 launchers for the implementation of Aster 16 surface-to-air missiles 15. If wishes, Egypt may later double the staffing Aster recovering the space of Sylver A70.
The rest of the large equipment remains unchanged, including Exocet MM40 8, a 76mm turret, two 20mm guns, torpedo tubes, a UMS 4110 hull sonar and towed sonar CAPTAS 4 and a Herakles multifunction radar . One hundred Egyptian sailors joined Lorient to form, with classroom lectures and simulator before taking charge of their future frigate ashore and at sea. The objective is a supply of Egyptian FREMM in the summer for participation in the ceremony marking the end of the widening of the Suez Canal.
The former Normandy yesterday in Lorient , Now will be Named Cairo Frigate
Beside the the Fremm Frigate i am very happy that we got the Gowind corvette such a powerful piece , and our sailors are already there in france training for the fremm
