The Durand Line-S. Asia's New Trouble Spot

Kabul should have raised and settled the issue when Pakistan seperated from British India in 1947 and became a independant state.

Durand Line, like virtually any international boundaries, has no expiration date, nor is there any mention of such in the Durand Line Agreement, which is contrary to the popular beliefs of certain Afghan scholars that the Agreement lapsed in 1993 which is after a hundred years of its signing.

.
But then again the same Afghan scholars claim that the document was in English and Amir Abdul Rahman Khan did not understand the English language, therefore leads the suspicious nature of forgery and or false documentation.

.
On second thoughts Neo, Pakistan should in fact go a step further, and allow Afghanistan to recreate the empire of Ahmed Shah Abdali.

Of course then the "Afghans" actually end up becoming a minority - in what would effectively be a "United Pakistan and Afghanistan".....:D

Something like this? :partay:

I say screw it we extend our borders and afghanistan becomes pakistans FATA area.:toast_sign:
If india can eat up Goa and not even burp we do the same problem solved.:enjoy:

.
The Durand Line is not The McMuhan Line, NWFP is not Hong Kong. There was no lease or 100 year agreement.

That is not the issue.

The issue is precedence.

And that is what will be the bone of contention.

If the Durand Line decision is upheld, so will the MacMohan line. That will surely not please the Chinese.

Goa was not an independent country but a colony that was occupied by the Portuguese in the heydays of Empire building.

The equation is hence apparently out of place since Afghanistan is a sovereign nation and not a colony of any imperialist power.

Notwithstanding, it is indeed a very singular idea that Pakistan must "gobble" up Afghanistan. I wonder, what is the delay in doing so.

I think right now it would do most sufficiently that the problems on the western part of Pakistan be solved in Pakistan's favour first, before such romanticism is speculated.

While the Kashmir issue for India is understandable since religion can be whipped up by vested interests, within and without India, I remain baffled as to what actually the Taliban want in the western part of Pakistan, when religion is not the issue, nor is the Pakhtoonistan an issue and yet the fight continues unabated. More interesting is that since there is no issue what is it that causes so emotive a response that people want to "gobble up" Afghanistan!

.
Putting aside the fact that the Durand Line Treaty doesn't have an expiration date, Why does pakistan have to follow the Durand Line Treaty again??

.
Agreed! we are taking actions in NWFP and the people of NWFP are patriotic and they know that Pakistan is their country. The problem could be solved with diplomacy, US is in charge of Afghanistan and they have to do it so again its time for Government to act.

Seeing the global situation diplomacy is the the only solution to all the conflicts . This issue is also of grave importance and it cant be neglected on any cost

.
I am not running away.

I am being polite since this is a Pakistani forum.

Indeed .............

In actuality, NWFP is very anti Pakistan.

Sir next time becareful while stating such FALSE and BULL SH.IT about NWFP. NWFP Is Part of Pakistan and we love our country Pakistan

If you have any proof to back what are you saying than post it otherwise it will be much better to waste your valuable time on finding some solution to your plauging Hunger in India.

The Durand Line decision/treaty is a different set of circumstances and content than the McMohan Line. Both the soverign Afghani government and the British government concluded the Durand Treaty in 1893, but ONLY the Indian government and the non-sovereign Tibetan government made a treaty in 1914. Plus how does 100 years fit into this?
