Haha...that is a huge debate (you are not either wrong or right since it depends on what context you are talking here).
Both have polytheistic and monotheistic tendencies. It depends at what level of discourse of the supernatural (and the soul's connection to it) you are going to talk about. Puranas did not "add" any more poytheism there already was in Vedas....I mean I can show you the very first chapter of the Rg. Ved if you want....all they did was consolidate lot of these disparate forces into 3 streams (the trinity of Hinduism).
The underlying monotheism that has always been present in Hinduism (past and current forms) really needs some study of Upanishads to have a sound understanding theologically.
Lot of Greek culture and original religion was formed in today's Turkey. Modern day boundary only matter so much to a larger time period of culture.
