In this thread I would like discuss what is best govt. and economic system for your country:

Govt. System:

1. Democracy: multi party, no party (only independent candidates)
2. Authoritarian: single party, monarchy, dictatorial

Full list:
Government - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Economic System:

1. Small govt. unbridled laissez faire free market capitalism (Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman)
2. Capitalism with regulation
3. Socialism in a democratic setup
4. Communism

Once we identify the immediate next step or improvement for our govt. and economic system, then we need to look for ways and means on how to get there. Here I want to introduce method of organizing and role of Direct Democracy:
Direct democracy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The above is related to recent Arab Spring, Indignados and Occupy movements, all of which depended on the internet to organize large groups of people to trigger changes in govt. and economic system and the process has just started. The future potentials are enormous and staggering.

.
Let me start with my adopted country, USA, I would like to see in the future the following happen:

1. Occupy movement get more organized using free open source online social media tools
2. A constitutional amendment to take money out of politics
3. Elect more independents and Green Party candidates, instead of Democrat or Republican duopoly bought and paid for by corporations and wealthy 1% elite
4. Abolish all political parties and only allow candidates to run in elections, based on their track record depending of public funding
5. Abolish politics altogether and elect/select public officials to run legislatures, executive and judicial branch for limited terms (no more life time Chief Justice)
6. Switch over to Direct Digital Democracy or E-democracy:
E-democracy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

E-democracy (a combination of the words electronic and democracy) refers to the use of information technologies and communication technologies and strategies in political and governance processes. "e-democracy is concerned with the use of information and communication technologies to engage citizens, support the democratic decision- making processes and strengthen representative democracy."[1] Democratic actors and sectors in this context include governments, elected officials, the media, political organizations, and citizens/voters.[2] E-democracy aims for broader and more active citizen participation enabled by the Internet, mobile communications, and other technologies in today's representative democracy, as well as through more participatory or direct forms of citizen involvement in addressing public challenges.[3]

1. Free to do so
2. Money needs to be spent if one is to campaign. If we are to keep elections as they are (televised debates, campaign organizers, and public speeches), fundraising is necessary, or else only the mega rich have a chance to become president or run for congress.
3. This is a political opinion rather than a structural change
4. Who makes up the body that decides who is allowed to run? There is your one party

5. judges whose job security is determined by the will of the majority would be a terrible idea.

6.I support E-democracy as a means to strengthen and encourage people's involvement in our republic, but not as a means to throw away our republic in favor of a democracy.

Good points.

Only public funding of election can stop the waste on political-media industry complex that. Private funding will always favor the agent of the 1% and let them win as it is happening now with unlimited funds from Super PACs, after opening of flood gates by Citizens United ruling by SCOTUS

3. Green Party is a different kind of political party and occupy movement should support this party in my opinion, although many in Occupy want to stay away from politics altogether and do not want to become partisan. I think its the best third party I have seen so far. I heard Jill Stein (Green Party presidential nominee) speeches, she sounds like an occupier. The Vice Presidential nominee is a former homeless mother and occupy activist.

I think those of us who want to pick Obama as the lesser evil and make sure Romney is not elected, can vote Democratic in the swing states (to avoid dividing the vote for Obama), while in blue states like California, where our vote does not really count, we can vote for Green Party for all positions, President, Senator, Congressperson, State reps. If we can get at least one elected official in the state or national level that will be an achievement for Green Party. At least more votes will be a show of support for a third party that is closest to the occupy movement.

4. The same selection criteria that selects independent candidates now can work for choosing future independent candidates. I tried to look for it on the web without much luck, any idea how it is done now? And why it should not work if political parties are made illegal? My inclination to make political parties illegal is to let the 99% be united and strong and to not allow the 1% and their agents to organize and concentrate their power under the party system

5. What do you think about SCOTUS judges now, who have made several interesting rulings, Citizens United case as well as the Arizona immigration law that virtually ensures racial profiling? There should be a process to impeach them, even though the process can be difficult like constitutional amendment

6. Glad that we agree on e-democracy, at least half way. As for Republic or Democracy, my feeling is that people should decide the form of their govt. and the constitution is open to amendments as long as due process and methods are followed. So the ultimate form should not be written in stone, but based on trial and error that works best for people at any particular point in time.

The real challenge is to engage more of the electorate in their own decision making, so they can come out of their apathy and become more involved in the the running of their affairs, local, state or national. Middle men should be gradually taken out as they are subject to influence from the 1%. Internet and social media software hopefully is the game changer, that will make it happen in phases. What ever you do ,which every type of system you choose there is bound to be corruption at every stage of the system ...... The best system among the available option is the one which gives power to people and people gets to decide the fate of ruling elite through their votes !

True, but we are talking about specific country situations. What changes do you suggest for India?

If History is any indication, in a constitutional convention, everything would be up for grabs up to and including the bill of rights. For this reason I am very very cautious/skeptical about the use of such to reform lobbying/ campaign practice, due to my fear that we'd end up with more than changes to campaign practice. Lets face it, the people who would be voting for these changes today are not the founding fathers.

An amendment which recognizes fair and free elections as a benefit to the good of the public and the country and establishes a mandatory publicly funded campaign pool for each candidate would indeed be an interesting idea imo. Of course I have not rolled this around in my mind thoroughly regarding the implications, but it is something to think about for the time being. Im actually curious as to the arguments against such.

It is mind boggling to think about how it could be choked through congress. (refer to my misgivings about a constitutional convention up top, I could for the time being only accept this change if pushed as an individual amendment)

Figuring out the campaign pool available to each candidate would be an exciting venture imo. Im sure this half thought out 'system' would still be susceptible to corruption in some form, but it strikes me as being less so than it is currently.

Probably means higher taxes to fund it though :P

I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough to say that one party (or any party for that matter) is 'better' for a free America than any other party at the moment, it is one of the reasons im a registered independent. Corruption follows those who gain power though (or rather those who are corrupt go where the power flows), it seems clear to me that at some point if the green party became a major party in the current system, it would become just as 'dirty' as the other parties.

I am very wary of starting political change with populism (us against the elites) as part of the reasoning it gives me uncomfortable thoughts of majority rule without regard to law.

First lets show what constitutes this one percent, it isn't just big time ceo's or money managers, in fact they don't even make up the largest minority!

As for how independents get on the ballot, the reason why its probably difficult to find it is because it varies by each state.

All that's in my mind is that the arbitrator of law should not be held captive to the desires of the majority. Law should also be above election but this is too often blemished because a president (who is of course part of a party) picks those who fill in the places of retired judges. If I had to think of changes it would be in that selection process.

This video is a bit basic but it sets the points well.

Imo some laws should not be open to revision that limits what is already there, especially the first 10 amendments. To add? Maybe, to take away? No.
due process and method is susceptible to majority whim in a direct democracy.

The real challenge is to engage more of the electorate in their own decision making, so they can come out of their apathy and become more involved in the the running of their affairs, local, state or national.

As I said before, I am very wary of arguments based on populism, the goal is for everyone to have a fair vote and chance to support your candidate under law, not a fair vote and chance to support under the 99%.

Any system, sans corruption ,can make a country successful. Corruption is the difference b/w success and failiure of nations on an economics point of view........

Best economic system is one based on real assets.
The current financial system we have is bound to collapse sooner or later.
The only reason money has value is because the government says so. But what happens if the government, for some reason, stops saying so? then people are screwed.
Also the system right now is designed to keep the rich, rich and the poor poor.

We need to shift to a system where money is based on real assets.

Why are houses or renting a house is so expensive? A normal little small house here starts with €150.000,- You must work 35+ years to have a own home and be indepented of rent. And what about other people that has a normal salaris and cant buy a house? A small house here with 1/2 rooms already starts with 400 euro a month.

How can the people be happy while he must pay every month much money and has no purchasing power left. Capitalism is just: Give money, take the money back.

The systems are not to stabilish the satisfaction of people but only to make a small group rich and suppress the people with it again. World must get rid off the interest system. Interest is a huge crime in my eyes. Africa is the most rich continent in the world but miraculously they are the poorest..

Islam = agains interest and Islam is the only religion that can stabilish a peacefull system where everybody is happy.
