‘Thank you Pakistan’, Afghan refugee minister acknowledges country’s 40 years of hosting

Afghanistan’s Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi on Monday expressed gratitude to Pakistan on hosting Afghan refugees for 40 years, saying joint efforts were still needed for their safe and voluntary return.

“We thank Pakistan for their generosity for such a long time and for hosting our people in need,” Balkhi, who visited Islamabad to attend the Refugee Summit, told APP.

The Afghan minister said the plan for return of refugees would be chalked out after consultations among Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The quadri-partite Solutions Strategy for Afghan Refugees (SSAR) provides a framework for cooperation between humanitarian and development actors to address the needs of Afghan refugees.

Balkhi said joint efforts were required to create an environment conducive to the gradual and planned return of refugees to Afghanistan with peace as the foremost need.

He said the meetings of four stakeholders held time-to-time in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, with next one to be held in Iran.

Over 6.5 million Afghan refugees live abroad with nearly 2.7 million in Pakistan and a significant population in Iran.

Just accept current boundary with Pakistan as permanent. We can offer Afghanistan something much more.. Much much valuable. But first, Afghanistan has to accept us, and KPK as the integral part of Pakistan.

Hazara. He also mentioned Pakistan providing safe havens against Afghan govt infront of our shameless govt.. Instead of a rebuttal Imran Khan used a very polite and stupid tone to address it.

Minus pashtun who are also divided Tajik, hazara, uzbek nationalities are anti Pakistan.

Imo Pakistan has done so much for these afgoonies bacha lovers. And in return all Pakistan has got has been stabbed in the back time and again.

I’ve had some negative experiences of what you talk about in the past... it seems you’ve had a lot more..never really delved into this ‘problem’ though I understand that it’s really f***ed Pakistan up on multiple levels.

Relationship between u & me is, La Illaha Illallah...We are hosting our afghan brothers & sisters for 40 years only for this reason "Tera Mera Rishta Kya?" "la ilaha illallah". I think our afghan brothers are forgetting this relationship with material layers and giving more preference to material and forgetting this life is not forever and one day will be accountable in front of Allah.
