Thai rice prospects have become bleak due mainly to high production costs, leading local farmers to have the lowest incomes among Asean rice producers.
Production costs in Thai rice farming are up to 139% higher than those in Vietnam and 37% higher than those in Myanmar, leading Thai farmers to have an income balance of only 1,556 baht per rai against 3,180 baht in Vietnam and 3,484 baht in Myanmar.
