Why do Vietnamese like bringing in historical wars and use this as a basis for future victories?
Just a friendly reminder
Siam had the most powerful army but we castrated and turned them into incompetent eunuch.

Off topic as usual plus it's not some ancient sculpture to be crack to know that its Mayanmar who played a much bigger role in Thai history, they fought for more than a few hundred years.
Can you stop chest thump for a sec?

It's people from weak undeveloped countries who like bragging about something that happened centuries ago.
Because in present day their countries are poor and backwards.
Going back in history make them sleep better at night.
But also not sleep so well when they wake up in the night and realized they were colonies of other great powers.

Nonsense
we can rearm if we want to.
We are demilitarized so much that we become too weak now, like the Japanese. Many our neighbors take advantage on that. Very sad.

Your case is different from the Japanese. Japanese demilitarized because it was defeated in WWII, which was a forced one. You 'demilitarized' because you were no longer useful tool for the soviet union which could not even sustain itself and collapsed, let alone vn... BTW, TBH, you have never reached even 1/100 of the height of JP in its heyday, and you are not even 1/10 of the height of JP in military even today...

Royal Thai Navy top brass hold a press briefing at the force's headquarters in Bangkok on Monday to defend the purchase of two more submarines worth a massive 22.5 billion baht from China. Apichit Jinakul

The Royal Thai Navy has defended its planned procurement of two more submarines worth a massive 22.5 billion baht from China, and accused the Pheu Thai Party of exploiting the issue for political gain.

The government and navy are under fire after a House subcommittee last Friday approved the purchase.

The public outcry over the submarine procurement forced the navy to hold a media conference on Monday. The topic #PeopleSayNoToSubs (in Thai) has been among the top hashtags since the budget got the nod from the subcommittee.

During Monday's press briefing at the navy headquarters in Bangkok, the military used the number of submarines in service or being bought by neighbouring countries to substantiate its need for a strong submersible fleet.

Vietnam has six, Indonesia has five with four more to come, Malaysia has two, Singapore has four with four more to come, and Myanmar has one and is looking for four more, according to the presentation.

The navy argued that the purchase was transparent and the money would come from the navy's budget over seven fiscal years.

Navy chief-of-staff Adm Sittiporn Maskasem said at the briefing on Monday the navy needed more submarines as part of its defence strategy, but the issue had been dragged into politics.

"We have found there are political attempts to use this issue to attack the government," he said.

The purchase of the first of the planned three submarines from China has already been finalised, using money from the 2017 budget. Delivery is expected in 2023.

Vice Adm Prachahart Sirisawat, deputy navy chief-of-staff, and the navy's spokesman, denied a claim by Pheu Thai MP Yutthapong Jarassathian that the Thai-Chinese government-to-government procurement contract was invalid.

On Sunday, Mr Yutthapong said that the contract is not a genuine government-to-government deal as claimed because navy chief Adm Luechai Ruddit who signed on behalf of Thailand had no authority to represent the government and the Chinese company which signed the contract was also not representing the Chinese government.

Only the prime minister or the foreign minister can legally represent the government in such deals and only the defence minister is able to be assigned that authority if necessary, said Mr Yutthapong.

Vice Adm Prachachart said Mr Yutthapong gave false information in order to score political gains.

"We will not let politicians use false information to create hatred of the navy. Don't politicise the issue. If you, politicians, run out of ideas to fight against the government, just look for others, but don't use the submarine issue,'' Vice Adm Prachachart said.

Last Friday, the subcommittee approved the navy's procurement of the submarines, with a vote of 5-4.

Mr Yutthapong was in the minority who voted against the purchase plan.

Vice Adm Thalerngsak Sirisawat, chief of the Naval Operation Department, said that neighbouring countries in the Southeast Asian region have a total of 18 submarines in service.

Even though major wars are unlikely to break out anytime soon, disputes involving territorial and maritime claims in the South China Sea have been ongoing, with major powers getting involved, he said.

The sea also serves as a main travel and goods transport route for Thailand, and if Thailand's navy is not strong enough, its maritime interests will be affected by the South China Sea disputes, Vice Adm Thalerngsak said.

Vice Adm Thirakul Kanchana, chief of the Office of the Naval Comptroller, said that the money to buy the two submarines would come from the navy's budget over seven fiscal years from 2020-2026.

He added that the government has instructed the navy to give a budget of 4.13 billion baht back to the government to support efforts to tackle the Covid-19 crisis, causing the delay to the purchase of the two submarines.

The signing of the purchase is due in September, Vice Adm Thirakul said.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said in Rayong on Monday that there had been no lobbying to get the two submarines approved by the panel. "How could lobbying be possible? It's the subcommittee's job," the Palang Pracharath Party leader said.

Pheu Thai spokesman Anusorn Iemsa-ard on Monday dismissed the navy's explanation as being of no consequence. The party would not step back from the issue, he said. If necessary they will step up the campaign to sink the project. He warned of street protests against the procurement.

Rear Adm Atthapol Phetchai, director of the Naval Acquisition Management Office, said the procurement of the first submarine -- a Yuan-class S26T submarine valued at 13.5 billion baht from China -- was legally valid.

Pretty much Thailand is only worried with Vietnam @Viet @cochine
Actually Thai gays army cant fight in the real war. When we attacked Thai cos they harboured Pol Pot, their soldiers always ran away when seeing our tank forces.

If Thai really wanna fight wt us, then they'd better buy more tanks cos VN tank forces r stationing in Thai-Camb borders right now

-------
On 7th January 1979, the Hanoi Leaders sent their invasion troops to topple their comrade in arms Khmer Rouge and Pol Potists. In late 1991, after the signing Paris Peace Agreement was to bring Aides and so far many millions of illegal Vietnamese migrants and prostitutes into Cambodia. After the Fair and free elections of 1993 were monitored and supervised by UNTAC, Hun Sen knew that the UNTAC troops were going home. He wanted to share the powers with the Prince Ranariddh so he ordered his Tiger Soldiers and secret police to use the tanks against the results of elections, which were fairly and freely monitored and supervised by UNTAC.

A grenade attack killed at least a dozen people in downtown of Phnom Penh before the bloodshed coup. On 5-6 July 1997 of the brutal coup d'etat, was created by Hun Sen and his Tiger Soldiers to topple Prince Ranariddh and Funcinpec Party. There was much uncountable causality, and houses burned to ash. September 1998, there were hundreds of thousands of Cambodian peaceful and freedom-lover demonstrators were brutally crashed by Hun Sen's Tiger Soldiers and Hok Lundi's.

Many of who were disappeared without a trace. These tyrant couple Vietnamese/Cambodian,Vuth/Siv had assassinated more than thousand people including Funcipec and Son Sann officers. They had more power than any ministers. They can arrest any minister, including Prime Minister, on order of Hanoi.

When they get in restaurant somewhere, ministers and generals should cede their places to theses two tyrants as they please. When Siv entered in a bar dancing, people inside the bar trembled and avoided eye contact with him. He abused waitresses in public. Sometimes, he came in the bar to arrest someone and slaughtered the arrested man not far away from Pochentong airport. A colonel Funcinpec arrived first at a very well known restaurant and ordered a famous special soup (special Samlor Ma Chou). Vuth, the Vietnamese tank commander, hungry after a long journey, arrived at the restaurant after the colonel. But the Vietnamese commander, attracted by the smell, wanted that soup at once. The restaurant owner obliged to comply Vuth desire. Funcinpec colonel protested to the restaurant owner. One week later, the Funcinpec colonel disappeared silently, it was 1998

."This proved again and again that Vietnam held Cambodia as her vassalage." The Vietnamese tank commander, Vuth, played an important role in Hun Sen coup of July 5-6, 1997. It was he who destroyed Funcinpec general Serey Kosal and Nhek Bun Chhay troops during their escape to Thai border. Nhek Bun Chhay fled to Thai border with 800 soldiers. Only three dozens survived and arrived to Thailand.Vietnamese leaders were very smart in the betrayal strategy. They sent their agents to tell what Funcinpec and Son Sann party leaders would like to hear. They exploited the Funcinpec/Son Sann antipathy to the Vietnamese. They spread smear against the good and competent Cambodian nationalist leaders by accusing them as infiltrated Vietnamese agents

The gulf of Thailand is very shallow. Thai submarines are like dead fish. They can easily be seen by planes. Totally useless. Plus we have islands that guard every ship enter the gulf. There is nothing to hide. Aip or not won’t help.
