I am not an Obama supporter, but I did think it was a good speech. As far as the Palestinian-Israeli problem, IF the US punishes the Israelis for continuing settlement building, THEN that will be a significant change in the US foreign policy. My "talisman" for whether or not Obama is all talk and no action is this issue. In order to be credible and to demonstrate a real change from the past, he MUST force the Israelis to suspend settlement construction and to eliminate all the "outposts", or punish them severely if they don't. I sincerely hope he does this.

Well This thread is not about Kashmir, so I do not want to prolong it, but I can say one thing. Everytime there is this back door resolution for kashmir solution, some events tends to break it. The last one was Mumbai attack.

Putting the burden on India first is completly false. Pakistan needs to shape up politically and economically to be solved.

Its not the UN issue any longer as both you and Pakistan have mutaully agreed to solve it. Is it one of the flash point with nuclear consequences in the world yes.

Does not India boast to be the worlds biggest democracy - Yes so solve the problem.

i was lookin for somethin on iraq war but nothing. it is one of the major reasons of y we have a rough relationship today. they screwed up the whole country in the name of WMDs and no words on it.

Let me also address the issue of Iraq. Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world. Although I believe that the Iraqi people are ultimately better off without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, I also believe that events in Iraq have reminded America of the need to use diplomacy and build international consensus to resolve our problems whenever possible. Indeed, we can recall the words of Thomas Jefferson, who said: “I hope that our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us that the less we use our power the greater it will be.”

Today, America has a dual responsibility: to help Iraq forge a better future – and to leave Iraq to Iraqis. I have made it clear to the Iraqi people that we pursue no bases, and no claim on their territory or resources. Iraq’s sovereignty is its own. That is why I ordered the removal of our combat brigades by next August. That is why we will honor our agreement with Iraq’s democratically-elected government to remove combat troops from Iraqi cities by July, and to remove all our troops from Iraq by 2012. We will help Iraq train its Security Forces and develop its economy. But we will support a secure and united Iraq as a partner, and never as a patron.

yes he did mention about Iraq that the muslim community should accept greatly, and very unbiased. The only problem I have is that he mentioned the iraq war as a "War of Choice." Which I disagree, all War are based on Choices made.

The speech that ajpirzada posted sound a little sweeter than the one I watched here in England on my Terrestrial Channel, in which 2 things arises

If America wants to see Iran giving ups its ambition of Nuclear weapons then Israel has to give its Nuclear, biological and Chemical weapons too in order to set the balance in Middle east . I haven’t heard anything in Obamas speech mentioning of Israels WMD. Allowing a nation to illegally invade other nation and exterminate people, to keep its Nuclear weapons would lead this region and the world down a hugely dangerous path. Israel has been the most aggressive country in the region committing to holocausts, wars and deliberate extermination against the Palestine with its latest and research into weapons. You have to remember that Iran has never caused any wars or commit to any genocide . Also we, the world were lead to believe that Saddam was Tyrant that was aggressive to his neighbours and had went on genocide spree against Shi’te , Kurds and others that stood in his way. An Image that mirrors Israel action but on a larger scale. Saddams ruthless behaviour was dealt with and rightly so. It was this behaviour that didn’t allow Iraq to have nuclear weapons. what about Israel and more to the point Iran ?

America wants to deal with Iran after a little speech made by a small man that Israel should be wiped out from the face of the Earth ? How many times did Israel said and committed to wiping Palestine yet they have the right to keep its Nuclear arsenal ? makes no sense at all.
To be honest all the Arab countries are either control by puppets or that they know too well that if they attacked Israel they will encounter the US wrath with its 10,000 nukes. So Israel is pretty safe without nukes especially when having 200-300 is pretty ridicules. Furthermore it shows that these nukes are not there for protection but a way of controlling the Middleast. AS Obama has mention that the US has been and always will be a strong , close supporter of Israel and that its self says it all.
All in All If America really wants to see anti-nuclear weapon state Iran then it has to rid Israel with its WMD as well – double standards will not work here.

Another thing Obama is targeting the issue on Israeli settlers on Palestinian land in order to win support of the Arabs whilst telling Iran not to have Nuke weapons. Is he trying to split the Middle East just like his predecessors ?














Obama makes a statement about Islamaphobia mentioning that he will tackle the issue directly but tells Muslim stop having anti western feelings . Although I do support it and as Muslim we should strive harder to better our selves America is not in position to demand Muslims around the world to stop hating the west. If America want to see a positive attitude by muslims towards them, then they will have to make the change and that i mean media, literature, in re-educating the people and a good public relationship

There is a lot emphasise on the Israel/Palestine as if to say that would calm the issue in the Muslim world , there are a lot of issue that need to be dealt with Like what Always Neutral pointed out Kashmire Issue and issue that never get reported.
However if this is a start then would be good news but I echo Truthseeker post Obama has to act rather using his speech as a way to get through to Muslim people because a lot of Muslim are listening and waiting to see things in motion.

Its quite british like to create problems around the world and then chide others for not solving. Almost every issue in the world today has british hands whether israel, durand line, iranian revolution, kashmir or osama.

again no regrets or anything close. this world is not a playin ground for US where they can learn and grow their wisdom.

It all bogs down to how the US supports Israel, its as simple as that. If Obama maintains a strict approach to Netanyahu's cookoo ideas than we might presume that America is actually doing something. Saying no to Settlement expansions is a good step forward.
