Tesla Model 3 orders hit $14 billion [325,000 pre-orders] in one week

Just fake hype. Car as a whole is an outdate technology. Electric cars have lots of down sides which will be made clear once they get on road. A fully electric car is a totally failed concept, Hybrids are far more successful. Energy storage is the biggest thing holding back electric cars and it is the sole reason why none of the electric cars have been successful in the past. Elon Musk's failed attempt to become Apple.

Oh you are so wrong. You have to change your mindset to 21st Century thinking. Electric autonomous cars will be like those successful ride sharing bicycles in China. You press a button on your phone and the nearest available car shows up, whisks you to your destination, drops you off INSIDE the building lobby, and then drives off to the nearest solar powered induction charging area (which will have Tesla energy storage packs) waiting for the next person to call. Having it pump gasoline itself isn't going to work.

Plus there are several Tesla owners here on PDF who you can ask yourself.

Tesla Model 3: a look at the center screen’s user interface

The lack of instrument cluster in the Tesla Model 3 might be its most controversial feature. It helped create rumors of a head-up display (HUD) fueled by Elon Musk’s comment that the steering controls will feel “like a spaceship”.

But one thing that it created for sure is an interesting problem for the user interface of the center screen, which now has to display information generally shown on the instrument cluster.

We started getting a pretty good idea of the UI with the first few pictures of the Model 3 release candidates, but new pictures are furthering our understanding of the feature.

When Musk killed the idea of a HUD in March, he also said that Tesla Model 3’s user interface is designed with self-driving in mind.

It made it sound like the UI will be subpar for actual drivers until full self-driving is available, but Musk insisted that drivers “will not care”. How?

New renders from Electrek commenter Moin Uddin helps us understand. They recreated the UI using recent rare pictures of a parked Model 3 release candidate without the screen being covered:

A few things to keep in mind here are that the vehicle was clearly in developer mode and therefore, the right side of the screen is not something that end users are likely going to see.

Also, the vehicle was parked when the pictures were taken and therefore, the left side of the screen likely represents the UI when parked. It’s likely going to be different when the car is in motion and we see the “navigate” button on that side of the screen, which seems to indicate the map would appear in that section.

Interestingly, we see the top left section where Tesla seems to plan to show the instrument cluster information – like we have seen on the original pre-alpha Model 3 prototype:

Musk confirmed earlier this year that the opacity of the information that will be displayed on this overlayed section of the center screen will change “according to relevance”:

Hopefully, it will be customizable and drivers will be able to adjust the UI to the preferences.

As usual, what we see on the release candidates don’t always translate to the production version since they are being tested at different stages of readiness. But that’s our best look so far and we might have to wait until July for anything better.

. . . .

He only said "one of the best".

However a popular German Car review site has sadly relented that a Tesla (noting how amazing it is after only being around for a short 5 years) is now the best car available after being posed that question.
